The Adam Lambert thread
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:25:03 am »
Adam Mitchel Lambert (born January 29, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter, and actor from San Diego, California. In May 2009, he finished as the runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol.[2] The Times identified Lambert as the first openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in the United States.[3]

Lambert released his debut album, For Your Entertainment, in November 2009, via RCA Records/19 Recordings.[4] The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 in December 2009, selling 198,000 copies in the United States in the first week.[5][6]

Early life
Lambert was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the son of Leila, an interior designer, and Eber Lambert, a program manager for Novatel Wireless.[7] He has a younger brother, Neil.[8]

Lambert moved to California shortly after his birth and grew up in Rancho Peñasquitos in northeastern San Diego. He attended Deer Canyon Elementary School, Mesa Verde Middle School, where he was a winner in the Airband competition (featuring Michael Jackson's "Thriller"), and Mount Carmel High School (MCHS), where he was in theater, choir, and frequently performed vocals with the school's jazz band "MC Jazz".[9] Some of his memorable MCHS performances included Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance and "It's Only a Paper Moon" with MC Jazz.

Lambert was raised in his mother's Jewish religion.[10][11][12] He has performed in Hebrew at Jewish events, singing songs such as "Shir LaShalom" at a 2005 tribute concert to assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.[10][13] Lambert attended Temple of the Arts in San Diego and has performed at the Kol Nidre service on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.[14] Lambert also performed in Jewish-themed The Ten Commandments: The Musical as Joshua, performing the song "Is Anybody Listening?"[15]

Early career
Lambert has been a stage actor since he was about ten years old. He was cast as Linus in San Diego's Lyceum Theater's production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.[16] Around age twelve, he was cast in a production of Fiddler on the Roof and continued performing throughout his teenage years including Hello, Dolly!, Chess, Camelot, The Music Man, Grease and played Captain Hook in Peter Pan. At age 19, Lambert left the U.S. to tour with Anita Mann Productions for ten months before returning to the U.S. to perform light opera in Orange County, California. He was then cast in the European production of Hair and U.S. theater productions of Brigadoon and 110 in the Shade, before being cast in the role of Joshua in The Ten Commandments: The Musical at the Kodak Theatre alongside Val Kilmer. Lambert was one of the few actors in the play that garnered a positive review.[17] From December 2006 to May 2007,[18] Lambert briefly moonlighted as the front man for underground rock band The Citizen Vein with Steve Sidelnyk, Tommy Victor and Monte Pittman.[19] During this time Lambert also met producer Malcolm Welsford who helped develop his recording career since 2005.[20] He was then cast as the understudy for the part of Fiyero in the Broadway production company tour and Los Angeles casts of the musical Wicked.[17] Since 2004, he has regularly performed at the Upright Cabaret and the Zodiac Show, which was co-created by Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls.

American Idol
Lambert auditioned for the eighth season of American Idol in San Francisco, California. In a Rolling Stone interview he said his decision to audition for the show came after a week at Burning Man where he experimented with "certain funguses." He went on to say that "I had a psychedelic experience where I looked up at the clouds and went, 'Oh!' I realized that we all have our own power, and that whatever I wanted to do, I had to make happen."[21]

During his initial audition, he sang "Rock With You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Lambert had cited several musical influences, including Madonna, Queen, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, and Led Zeppelin.[22][23][24] In the semifinals, Lambert was voted into the Top 13, joining fellow Group 2 performers Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen. Lambert and Allen became roommates in the Idol mansion, with Allen stating it was due to their neatness.[25]

During Michael Jackson week, he sang "Black or White" leading to praise from all four judges, with Paula Abdul predicting that he would go on to the finals.[26] The following week, Lambert sang a version of "Ring of Fire". While Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Abdul all liked his performance, Simon Cowell called it "indulgent rubbish".[27] On Motown night, Lambert sang an acoustic version of The Miracles', "The Tracks of My Tears". The judges all liked it, and Smokey Robinson, the week's mentor and the original singer-songwriter, gave Lambert a standing ovation. For his Top 8 performance, Lambert sang the 2001 Michael Andrews and Gary Jules arrangement of "Mad World". Because the show had exceeded its time slot, only Cowell gave a critique, which he did by simply giving Lambert a standing ovation. During the results next night, the other judges agreed that a standing ovation was the best critique of Lambert's performance.[28] For his second Top 7 performance, Lambert sang "If I Can't Have You", delivering what DioGuardi described as his "most memorable performance", while Cowell described his vocals as "immaculate". Abdul was reduced to tears, with host Ryan Seacrest joking that Lambert had melted her into a "pool of Abdul".[29] In the Top 4, Lambert was the first to sing, performing "Whole Lotta Love". Cowell commented, "that was one of my favorite performances...nobody can top that now", while Abdul, punning on the song's title, described Lambert's performance as "a whole lotta perfect".

Photos of Lambert romantically kissing another man surfaced while he was competing on American Idol. Initially shown and discussed by commentators on The O'Reilly Factor, the panel agreed that the images would likely have no impact on the competition.[30] Lambert confirmed that the photos were of him, stating he had nothing to hide and has always been open about his life.[31] Mainstream media speculation centered on Lambert's sexuality; presuming he was gay, he would be the first gay American Idol.[32][note 1] Much of the media focus regarded the readiness of American Idol voters for an openly gay winner.[32] Asked by Rolling Stone whether the speculation surrounding his sexual orientation impacted the final vote, Lambert laughed and said "probably".[33] He confirmed that he was gay in a Rolling Stone cover story interview shortly after he was named the American Idol runner-up.[34]

For the top three show, where each of the three remaining contestants does a hometown visit and performance, Lambert sang both Michael Jackson's "Black or White", and the Michael Andrews / Gary Jules version of Tears for Fears' "Mad World" at his alma mater, Mt. Carmel High School.[35][36] Afterwards, San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders declared May 8, 2009 "Adam Lambert Day."[37]

On May 20, 2009, Lambert was announced as the runner-up for the eighth season of American Idol. Lambert performed a medley of "Beth", "Detroit Rock City", and "Rock and Roll All Nite" with rock band Kiss during the final episode. His version of the winning single "No Boundaries" was later released on iTunes alongside American Idol winner Kris Allen's version. Before the results were announced, Allen and Lambert joined together with Queen’s original guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor to perform the anthem "We Are the Champions".[38]

Upon winning, Allen said "Adam deserved this." Explaining this remark, Allen said that he thought Lambert deserved to win as much as he did, and that Lambert "was the most consistent person all year. He was seriously one of the most gifted performers that I've ever met."[39]

Post-Idol
In May 2009 Billboard magazine confirmed his solo album was expected to be released in November 2009. Lambert stated that he would love to work with Slash, stating "When I was working with Slash I felt at home." He also stated that his solo album would be eclectic, having a variety of sounds.[40] Rock group Queen, with whom Lambert performed on the season finale, were at one point rumored to be considering asking Lambert to be their new frontman.[41] Lambert was a guest on Larry King Live (guest-hosted by Ryan Seacrest) along with Kris Allen, judge Paula Abdul, and the rest of the top ten finalists. In that appearance he stated that he planned to create a multi-genre album, calling it a "rock-pop-electronic-dance thing".[42] Lambert stuck to those intentions; the album he subsequently released conformed highly to his description of the album he planned to make.[43]

Adam Lambert worked with producers Greg Wells, Ryan Tedder, Max Martin, Sam Sparro, RedOne,[4] Dr. Luke, and Linda Perry, among others, in the run-up to the release of his debut album, For Your Entertainment.[44] Aimee Mayo stated on Twitter that she wrote at least two songs for Lambert,[45] one co-written with Ryan Tedder and Chris Lindsey and, another with Ferras, the latter of which was not included for selection. Lady Gaga also reportedly wrote a song that they spent some time recording.[46] On October 28, 2009, Lambert announced via Twitter that his lead single from his debut album would be "For Your Entertainment", a song that was produced by Dr. Luke.[47]

Lambert was recruited to record the soundtrack "Time for Miracles" for the disaster movie 2012 that was released on October 20, 2009 as a side project single. The song was lauded ahead of its release by Queen's guitarist, Brian May, who described himself as being "completely blown away" upon hearing the track.[48] The track "Time for Miracles" also appears on For Your Entertainment.[49]

On June 19, 2009, Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records revealed that they would be releasing On With the Show, a compilation of songs Lambert had recorded prior to American Idol while working as a session musician.[50] The album's first single is "Want."[51] Lambert later issued a statement through 19 Entertainment stating, "Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on."[52] On November 17, Lambert's album was released with a new name: "Take One." The album is available on iTunes.

The Canadian website and magazine Rockstar Weekly published an Adam Lambert fan magazine in February 2010 featuring fun and inspirational stories from Lambert fans around the world. The issue sold-out quickly in its limited first run and was re-issued in October 2010 with extra pages.[53]

Since Idol Lambert has so far won two awards: the Young Hollywood Award for Artist of the Year and the Teen Choice Award for Reality/Variety Star.[54][55] Lambert participated in the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2009 with his fellow Top 10 contestants; the tour visited 50 cities in the United States and Canada from July 5 to September 15, 2009.

In November, Lambert performed "For Your Entertainment" at the American Music Awards of 2009. The performance showed Lambert kissing a male keyboardist, grinding a dancer's head against his pelvis, and grabbing the crotch of another. Lambert told Rolling Stone magazine, "Female performers have been doing this for years—pushing the envelope about sexuality—and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. We're in 2009—it's time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people's eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I'm not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom."[56] In response to his performance, the Parents Television Council, a conservative decency campaigning group,[57] urged viewers to complain to the FCC.[58] The performance, at the end of the show, was broadcast "outside the FCC's usual 6am-10pm time frame prohibiting the broadcast of indecent material".[59] ABC received about 1,500 telephoned complaints and announced he would not perform on Good Morning America on November 25 as planned.[60][61] CBS subsequently invited Lambert to perform instead on The Early Show, on the same date in New York City.[62]

February 27th, 2010 Lambert performed his first official solo concert, held at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.[63] He appeared on American Idol as a guest mentor in an episode airing April 13, 2010.[64] Adam Lambert is currently touring throughout the United States this summer with Allison Iraheta and Orianthi. He will be touring until December and he is taking the Glam Nation Tour internationally.[65]

My review of last night;

Adam Lambert's message is pretty simple: love yourself. But it's well to remember that this comes from a 28 year old who is the first openly homosexual to have been launched by a major record label in the US. And you need to look no further than at the comments page on youtube to realise his sexuality hasn't gone unnoticed by anyone.

The show opens with Adam dressed to impress in purple top hat and elaborate scene costume fit for Broadway. Woodo and For Your Entertainment feels a bit rushed. Soon he looses the hat, then the coat (which is purple too of course) and takes on the more earnest songs like What to you want from me and Soaked. Here he really connects with the crowd that consists mainly of young girls (but I also spot men holding hands and other people like me in their thirties. Right behind me, I notice, is an entire family; mum, dad and two younger children.)
During the show Adam changes clothes at least three times and his costumes are always in perfect sync with the music. For the slower more serious songs it's black and dark blue and for the more upbeat songs it's Glam God.

Adam Lambert is all about glam and rock and one thing that surely draws people in are his looks. But the thing is that he sure can sing - I doubt even the most homophobic of his opponents can deny that. He got a big old voice that he seems to have complete control of.

The show is part of the Glam Nation Tour which he has taken all over the world on a VERY tight schedule performing almost every night. You can tell from watching that the show is a well oiled machinery by now.

Favorite moments:
As he sings "If I Had You" the entire crowd jumps up and down so hard the floor trembles.
When he sings "Soaked" and proves to everyone in the audience that he could sing anybodies socks off.
When he brings his choreographer into the spotlight and together with her shows off what he has learned.

I´m not sure why but Adam Lambert reminds me of a young Elvis. Maybe it´s the voice you can´t argue with coupled with the raw energy that pours out of thim (or maybe it´s simply the hip grinding). Time will tell, I suppose.

Adam talks about civil rights and says "anybody that tells you no -tell them, fuck you!"

And sings "A Change is Gonna Come"

I sat through the entire EMAs *shudder*  yesterday  to see Adam perform together with Queen (their act was the grande finale, as it turned out). Amazing performance, though!

Anyways, this is a fairly recent photograph of him, featured in Out Magazine, that I found very Brokie-ish.

THIS IS GREAT!!  I cannot believe there is another person here who loves Adam, as much as me.  I am glad to see this thread..

He is the best thing to come along in many years.  I love love love him.  Can't get enough of Adam.  He makes my heart sing.  I have been singing his praises, since I first watched his try outs in AI.  I watched and voted every week.  More than five hundred times I am sure.  I had my kids, my grand kids, and everyone I knew calling in also.  I was crushed when he did not win.  I however knew in my heart that he would go on to reach international stardom.  It has come to pass, in spite of the bigots and slanderers out there.  I am sure that is the reason that he did not win.  The right wing ding bats, and the religious zealots were out in force to see that he didn't win.  By any means available they voted.  It was a joke, but in the end even after the fiasco that they made of his appearance on the American Music awards.  He has had the last laugh.  His around the world box office numbers proved that.  I think his first album was unbelievable.  Considering that he had only three or four months to get it out.  He was on the annual tour and flying back and forth to make the meetings and the tracks.  He made what I consider an a amazing album.  I have gotten to the point where I keep finding a new favorite, every time I listen to it.  I went to two of his concerts on his tour.  One in Portland Ore, where I live.  The other one in Kentucky near where my grandaughter lives.  She is getting her doctorate at Univ. Ohio.  I went and spent two weeks with her, and we went together to the concert.  She had not known him before, because she has limited time on tv.  After the first two songs, she stood up and said,  " you have got me."
She is primarily a country fan, and she loves him as much as I do.

Thank you for starting this blog, and I will for sure be one of your frequent visitors.

Maybe I will post some information here as well.  I found out on his twitter account that he is pushing his next album release date back to Jan or Feb.  His is still tweaking it to suit himself.  I am very disappointed, but I will survive.  I can't wait until its out.   I know that he wanted to write, or co-write all of the songs.  That is a tremendous undertaking.  For anyone to come to...I hope it is awesome.  As I am sure it will be..

Here is a whole hour of the Glamtastic man.  A station in New Zealand (Liam McEwans,) show gave an entire hour to the man and his music.

For those who haven't seen the new video for Better than I know Myself.  It came out two days ago, and it epic.  I think it is one of the best videos I have ever seen.  Smashing and crying and everything in between.   Look for it online, or go to Adam Official.com and have a look.

Adam is in Sweden tonight, doing a promo gig at a national radio station. They held a lottery where you could win a ticket to watch him perform (I obviously didn´t win since I´m hanging out here 8))

Here´s Adam´s new video "Better Than I Know Myself". Take your pick at who you prefer - dark leather clad Adam, or sweet Adam in grandpas sweater?

Yes he fronted the band at the EMAs.  It was super.  They were getting loads of phone calls, after.  Asking them to do it again, according to Brian May.  They have since signed up to do two more gigs together.  Knebworth, the last concert appearance of Freddie Mercury was at Knebworth.  They are also going to do an appearance in Moscow Russia together.

I would love to go to the Knebworth concert.  The is NO WAY.   :'(  Therefor I hope it is recorded, and either put on youtube, or they make a CD.
Queen is absolutely great in concert.  I have one on my blog.  Wimbley Stadium..  I love it...  Freddie was at the prime of his talent on that one.

Well the meet and greet, and the short concert was as good as I could have ever hoped.  Tommy was his guitarist, and
he sang three songs.  His new one, Better than I know myself, Then he did an audience poll in order to see which song that was the most popular from the new album.  Cookoo, or Trespassing.  It was a basic tie, so he sang  WDYWFM, as an alternative.   What do you want from me, and can if you believe it, a Katy Perry song.  He is such a perfect singer.  He is even better in person, than on the records.  He mixes it up from each time, that he performs.  New phrasing and such.
After the concert, and interview.  They allowed everyone there to have photos taken.  Four people two on each side, and him in the middle.  I gave him a necklace, that I had bought from Louise.  He is as big an Egyptophile as I am.  He really liked it.  Said he thought it was beautiful..  I didn't get him to sign my magazines, because they didn't allow any signatures.  Oh well, still have that on my bucket list.
He was charming, sweet, and very kind and did I mention, handsome.  Everyone was just in awe.  My daughter told him thank you so much, for all the "joy you have given my mother."  He said aww thats sweet.  It was all too short, but amazing all the same.  I am so happy, to have gotten to meet him in person.  I will never forget it.

While we were in line, we stuck up a conversation with a couple and talked to them, for quite a while.  Later we found out, it was his Uncle and Aunt.  They are from Redmond Oregon...  Talk about serendipity.

I won the tickets, by calling and calling, and calling to try and be caller number 9.  It was like a lottery.  It has been going
on for two and a half weeks.  I was at the coast with my husband for one of the weeks though.  So when I got back home started calling and calling, as I said.   It got to be Thursday, and the best I had done was to get a ringer for about ten rings, and then a shut off.  They always take number 9.  I guess I was 7 or 8.  Anyhow, I finally got the ticket on Monday morning, at
6:00 am.  I had stayed up all night, in order to make the 6 and 7 o'clock call ins.  I won on the 6 am show time.

I forgot to mention, that he also sang for the first time, anywhere, an acoustic version of another of his songs.  One of my favorites so far. "Never close our eyes."  It is a song written by Bruno Mars, and it is sooo romantic, and the music seems to be about the beginning of a romance.

For those of you who wish to know everything Adam.  You can join this fan site.  It is a great one, and gives sometimes more than one update daily.  His uncle said he belongs to it as well.  The songs that he played yesterday are on there now.

Well done with the radio lottery. Your endurance paid off.
I know next to nothing about Adam Lambert, but your story made me smile big time. Glad you had this chance. :)

You said you don't know anything about him.. You should.

If you love great singers, you should get to know him.  He is (without prejudice) the best out there now.  He is simply awe inspiring with his vocal ability.  He has turned out to be quite a good writer as well.  I am glad for him, because that is where the lion share of the money is made.

He is the only pop/rock singer out there, that sounds better in person than on his recordings.  He mixes them up, and sings them differently all the time.  He appears most of the time, on these promo tours, with just a guitarist.  His guitarist is the one that he kissed on stage, at the AMAs.  And coincidentally; straight.

 " Chokehold"

Words to the song, from Adam's upcoming album.

All these hard confessions I forgave
Complicatiate
But I kinda like the pain, yeah
Baby I can smell you on my clothes
I try to stay composed
But I feel the fever grow whoa-o oh!

I keep running away running away running away from you
But I can't stand breaking the chains
Breaking the chains breaking the chains
Oh cause I know the second you go
Wantcha to bring it on back bring it on back bring it on back to me

And you know I want your chokehold
Wantcha to bring it on back bring it on back bring it on back to me
Bring it on back to me
Bring it on back to me

Oh oh oh
Hey hey
Oh oh I want your chokehold
Oh oh hey hey
Now I'm bring you baby back to me

Cause I know the second you go
And you know I want your chokehold
Gotta bring it on back bring it on back bring it on back to me
Bring it on back to me
Bring it on back to me
Oh oh you gotta bring it right back

How sexy is this?

Never close our eyes..

Words to the song, from Adam's upcoming album.  Written by Bruno Mars.

I wish that this night would never be over
There’s plenty of time to sleep when we die
So let’s just stay awake until we grow older
If I had my way we’d never close our eyes, our eyes, never!

I don’t wanna let a minute get away
Cause we got no time to lose
None of us are promised to see tomorrow
And what we do is ours to choose

Forget about the sunrise
Fight the sleep in your eyes
I don’t wanna miss a second with you
Let’s stay this way forever
It’s only getting better if we want it to

But you know I wish that this night would never be over
There’s plenty of time to sleep when we die
So let’s just stay awake until we grow older
If I had my way we’d never close our eyes, our eyes, never!

It's so hard to think this would fade away
But what goes up must come down
Why can't we just live life with no consequence
That no way living the now

Forget about the sunrise
Fight the sleep in your eyes
I don’t wanna miss a second with you
Let’s stay this way forever
It only gets better if we want it to

You know that I wish that this night would never be over
There’s plenty of time to sleep when we die
So let’s just stay awake until we grow older
If I had my way we’d never close our eyes, our eyes, never

Love this song.  He sang it at the appearance I attended.     I had heard snippets before but not accousticly.

  "Trespassing"

Words to the song, from Adam's upcoming album.

Well I was walkin for some time
When I came across this sign
Sayin "who are you and where are you from?"
We don't like when visitors come.

"No Trespassing" that's what it said
At least that's what I could read.
No Trespassing? Yeah, my ass!
Wait till ya get a load of me!

One day I was trippin and that's when I could see
That the ether I had tapped into could be reality
It was great, that's when I climbed that optimistic vine
Once I hit that mountain peak I began to lose my mind

I don't need no sympathy. I won't cry and whine.
Life's my light and liberty
And I'll shine when I wanna shine.

Make their faces crack
There's no turnin back.
Let's GO!

Well I was walkin for some time
When I came across this sign
Sayin "who are you and where are you from?"
We don't like when visitors come.

"No Trespassing" that's what it said
At least that's what I could read.
No Trespassing? Yeah, my ass!
Wait till ya get a load of me!

I ain't got BS in my bag
That's the one thing you can believe
My heart is gold, my body is lax
Come on baby, can't you see?

Well I was walkin for some time
When I came across this sign
Sayin "who are you and where are you from?"
We don't like when visitors come.

"No Trespassing" that's what it said
At least that's what I could read.
No Trespassing? Yeah, my ass!
Wait till ya get a load of me!
Wait till ya get a load of me!

He says this is a gay community anthem.  It ROCKS   HARD...
He is the wordsmith for most of the songs this time.  He jams in studio with others to do the music and arranging.

Never Close our Eyes he sang this live in Portland.

http://idolator.com/6232901/adam-lambert-never-close-our-eyes-trespassing-listen

He asked the audience if they wanted to hear  "Trespassin, or Coocoo,"  and after three ties said he was going to sing.  "What do you want from me..."

   Adam's new single
 from the upcoming album Trespassing

This is him singing one of the new songs in Portland...
I hope he puts out an acoustic version of this...I think it is perfection, dressed down.

His voice is as great an instrument as you can find.. so a guitar and his voice is plenty.

Here is that Queen extravaganza group I was telling you about Chrissi..
They played on American Idol tonight with Roger, and Brian.

&feature=youtu.be

They are probably going to do some stints in Europe also.
its amazing how much they not only sound like the original players, they even play like them and look like them too.
The have duplicates of Freddie, that looks and sounds like him
One that resembles Roger, and plays drums.  One that plays guitar, and even looks like Brian.
Then they have the guy that looks and plays like the retired John Deacon as well.  If they have
the kind of success that the Beatles groups like this have had.  They will be great..

Niles beautiful bass line, and Sams vocals add to the whole so much.

I love love love this song.  Cant stop playing it.  Only two weeks till the whoe thing.
This is one of the best second albums I have heard from any artist.

We had a discussion at lunch yesterday, one of my coworkers was trying to convince me that Adam Lambert and Miranda Lambert are related.

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

Janice! Where have you been so long? I've missed ya! I PMed you, but can't remember if it was here or on FB.
Anyway, it's so good to see you. Welcome back, girl! :-*
