My partner David just showed me his July-August 2006 issue of "The Gay and Lesbian Review" has an article by Patricia Nell Warren - "Real Cowboys, Real Rodeos" that makes several references to BBM. It begins as follows:
THE POLITICAL DUST STORM kicked up by the Oscar-winning film Brokeback Mountain, . . .
You can read it at
http://www.glreview.com/issues/13.4/13.4-warren.phpInterestingly, the author states that "In 1983, Jack’s story ends with a beating by gay-bashers at the age of 43" although we do not know what really happened to Jack.
There is also an interesting short sidebar item, “Stemming the Rose”: A Brokeback Mystery" by Blanche Poubelle. It explores several possible meaning to “Stemming the Rose” and states, "there's a clear consensus among those who have investigated “Stemming the Rose” that Proulx invented the term. This sidebar item is not on the "The Gay and Lesbian Review" website, but I’ll try to scan and post it when I get a chance.
