Jimmy that was a really tough decision!  I spent way too much time thinking about that.  I picked "Time to get going Cowboy" b/c I melt when he says that.  But I also love "Friend, that's more words...".

Two more that I love that aren't in the poll:

1. "The Pentacost.....I don't know what the Pentacost is.  Mom never explained it to me".

2.  "Fine.  I was just thinkin' out loud" - This one is a combo of the line and his gesture when he says it - he's angry, but at the same time it is so typical of Jack's bitching that it cracks me up.

Yay, I thought I was alone in my "thinking out loud" love.  Glad to see another person loves it too.  I'll do a sequel to the poll with more Jack goodness. :)

I picked the "sometimes I miss you so much" line.  It KILLS me everytime.  It was also changed from the story, and it's soooo much more powerful in the movie.  Where's my Jack to say that to me????

Love that too! As you can tell (see signature.. - it's the film version though, not the short story version).

Thank you Jimmy!

The "I miss you so much " line is the greatest.   How many times have we all wanted to say that out loud to someone special?    :'(

another favorite not on the list is :"I'm commuting fours hours a day!"   LOL

Ditto.....the pause is as much a part of the line as the words.  And that it comes after the bull session about who they're screwing makes it even more poignant.  Even after everything I love that he can still be so vulnerable.

My favorite Jack line was not on the list:

"Now you sit down you ole' son of a bitch before I knock you ass into next week"

The first time I saw Brokeback Mountain the full theater applauded when he told off his father in law.

I'm the sole "No more beans" voter.  Of all his lines, and I love pretty much all of 'em, this one defines him the most to me.  I think the beans are actually symbolic.  They are a symbol of the status quo, which is acceptable to Ennis but not to Jack.  Just that whole sequence - "I thought you didn't eat soup."  "Yeah, well, I'm sicka beans."  "Too early in the summer to be sick of beans."  Beans being pretending to be straight when you're not.  Love it.  Love the line.  Love that whole sequence.  Love Jack.  Love Ennis.  But mostly love Jack.

Hey Barb, I'm not entirely sure why, but this makes absolute sense to me.  I've read a lot of threads about symbolism, camera moves and kitchen scales, and I superficially get these without any real resonance.  After all, many kitchens contain scales.  But the beans meaning "straight", whether this was purposely inserted in the movie or not, really works for me.  Thank you Barb, that collection of seemingly unrelated scenes with beans, now means a whole lot more for me.

I love ALL of them, but "It's nobody's business but ours" was the one that got me hooked, when I saw it in the preview.

Next, probably the long speech, ending with "you'll kill me for needing something I don't hardly never get," on the last morning.

Wow... it is SOOO hard to pick! I ended up choosing "What if you and me had a little ranch together somewhere, little cow-and-calf operation, it'd be some sweet life."  But really I love them all.

I like it when Ennis says "I thought that mare couldn't throw you" and Jack replies "Well... she got lucky" lol I dont know why, I just think it's really cute.

I love this one, too, iheart! Partly because of the cute way he says it.

And I agree with Jeff, No. 11 is WAY too depressing. No. 12 I can handle, because I cling to the hope in "I wish I knew" -- that is, he doesn't know how and can't.

I couldn't help but choose "Ole Brokeback got us good, didn't it?"

There has been several times I  have thought  the same thing.

Plus, Jack pulled at my heartstrings just a little when he said this.

It was powerful, yet a little sad too.  >:(

Gotta be the 'Truth is...' line for me. He's so vulnerable and sad at that moment... I just wanna kiss it all better  :-*

Other than that - and I'm not sure quite why I like the way he says this line so much - I love how Jake says "That ain't the point" when he's bitchin' about Aguiire.

I'm going with ..."Friend, that's more words than you've spoke in the past two weeks." as my favourite of your great list Jimmy.  To me it's Jack's realization that Ennis is finally opening up to him.  The way Jack's face shows the gradual realiazation that Ennis is really starting to spill.  I also love the way Ennis gazes at Jack without hesitation and look directly at him as he asks him "whut?" and then continues with his story.  This leads into Ennis' gentle teasing about Rodeo Cowboys  being f*ck ups and Jack's showmanship and that brilliant smile he coaxes out of Ennis.

I'm still in love with these two.

I'm going with:  "You know, it could be this way. Just like this, always."

I like it because it shows a wishful Jack testing the waters.  It's his opening line to broaching the subject of the little cow-and-calf operation to Ennis.  Jack's face is so full of hope and optimism that you can't help but wish that Ennis will see things Jack's way.

I went with "Ennis! Quit your hammerin' and get in here." Jack is sleepy and grumpy at this moment, but his words reveal his affection and real concern for Ennis. This scene plays out like a fantasy of mine in which necessity brings two people together who bond in the most unexpected way. Bedroll's big enough for two, ya know!

Well you would think the obvious one to pick is "I wish I knew...." but that line has been used too much.  After looking the one that really stuck out was "You know, it could be this way. Just like this, always."  That line stirs up alot of emotion when I heard it cause you know it's just a pipedream statement between Jack & Ennis.  Happiness was so close for them yet they were never going to grasp it.

I never got to vote in this poll, so I'm doing so now. I picked "I wish I knew how to quit you" because it expressed so perfectly Jack's despair as well as his undying pledge of love to Ennis.
