widescreen problems??
« on: April 04, 2006, 10:12:32 pm »
Hey everyone, I just read that some people are having problems with their widescreen DVDs, that the previews are widescreen but when the movie starts it moves to a distorted full screen... has anyone been having problems or can anyone confirm this? I'm don't want to open mine if it's going to be full screen, I want to be able to return it...  ???

Hey Mandy,

I was one of those people, but it's my tv I think.  I was watching it on my 27 inch tv and the previews and special features were letterboxed, but the movie wasn't.  I then put it on on the big screen tv and it WAS letterboxed.  So....I guess it's my tv, but I don't get why part of the dvd would be letterboxed and part not on the same television....very strange.

I don't think it was just you Nicole, a lot of people over on TOB were having problems... anyway, I guess I'll have to just try it for myself and find out, at the moment I have 2 copies (long story...) so hopefully one will work!  ::)

ROFL no but I seriously wanted to do that because when I was actually holding it it just didn't seem real, and it had that cheesy made in mexico stamp on the back so I was all worried!

What happened is, I bought one at target this morning, then I read David's thread about his walmart trick and found out that best buy was giving out copies of the story to screenplay book for free.  So I called best buy and they said they only had a few left and I live about 45 minutes from a best buy so I ran out and made sure i got one, but now I have 2 DVDs... oh well, I'll either return it or give it to someone!

Hmmmm, mine was the opposite.

The menus, etc, play full screen and the movie itself is widescreen.

I don't get the two different covers!

The one I bought at Target this morning, the picture is in the middle surrounded by a border of silvery-grey.

Then at Hasting's and Borders, the poster covers the entire DVD cover!

I like that one better... Sigh...

On the main IMDB board, many posters who bought the widescreen version at Wal-mart actually got the Full Screen in the package.

This seems to be a Wal-Mart problem since no one is reporting the same from other retail outlets.

Strange......

My DVD is letterboxed for the film and it works okay on the tiny TV I am using at the moment.  When I saw the menus screen it was full screen on my TV.

When I popped it into my computer to check out how nice the screen captures I can take are the menu came in widescreen also!  Bizarre!  I'm wondering if it's possibly a player problem....not a DVD disc problem.
Love.  You have a problem with it?
