Dido - Thank You  1998-2000

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_You_(Dido_song)

My tea's gone cold, I wondering why I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window, and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey, but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad, it's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay, my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today, I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad, it's not so bad and

I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life

Push the door, I'm home at last and I'm soaking through and through
Then you handed me a towel and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down now, I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me
and

I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life

I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life.

I love that Dido song!

I loved that song also, Chuck.  :)

Interestingly, it was in the soundtrack of the 1998 Gwyneth Paltrow movie, Sliding Doors, a year before it was finally put in Dido's debut album, No Angel  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Angel

Just continuing, I really liked Sliding Doors a lot, even though I wasn't a huge fan of Gwynnie's, and I disliked her two male co-stars, John Hannah as James and John Lynch as Gerry (one in particular, Lynch, I actually loathed). The reason I liked the movie was 1) I loved London and I was spending a lot of time there at that part of my life, and 2) the soundtrack, and I bought it soon after--

Scary to realize it was nearly 20 years ago-- :P ::) (Goddamn it, I am disgustingly OLD!!!!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_Doors

Soundtrack

Aimee Mann – "Amateur"
Elton John – "Bennie and the Jets"
Dido – "Thank You"
Aqua – "Turn Back Time"
Jamiroquai – "Use the Force"
Abra Moore – "Don't Feel Like Cryin'"
Peach – "On My Own"
Olive – "Miracle"
Dodgy – "Good Enough"
Blair – "Have Fun, Go Mad"
Andre Barreau – "Got a Thing About You"
Andre Barreau – "Call Me a Fool"

British singer Dido's song "Thank You" made its appearance on the soundtrack, becoming a hit three years later. It was a commercial for this film featuring. The song eventually hit no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Aqua's song "Turn Back Time" was released as a single in 1998 and topped the UK Singles chart. The music video is heavily based on the movie and featured scenes from it.

This soundtrack is notable as the last from a Paramount film to be released by MCA Records, which, as successor to Paramount's former record division, continued to release soundtracks for some Paramount films starting in 1979. In 2003, when Geffen Records absorbed MCA and became another successor to the former record division of Paramount, it began to share the duty of issuing Paramount film soundtracks with sister labels Interscope and A&M.

An important omission from the soundtrack is the Patty Larkin cover of "Tenderness on the Block" that plays during the final scene. Due to copyright and recording issues, this track was never released and is only available in the movie.

A side note about Dido's song.

When "No Angel" was released, "Thank You" was passed over to be the lead single, and instead "Here With Me" was released, and it went Top 10.  The CD's second single flopped, but just at that time,  rapper Eminem had released his (then) latest CD, and the lead single was "Stan".  "Stan" is about an obsessed fan who is stalking Eminem and becoming unhinged.  The lines that open "Thank You" became the chorus for "Stan", with Dido's voice used in the sample, and Dido plays the obsessed fan's girlfriend in the video.

All the attention that "Stan" received (due to the violent ending of the song) spread to "Thank You" and it was released as Dido's third single, and it followed "Here With Me" into the Top 10.

Be aware, the video contains adult language which is not edited out.

I actually knew that at some point, but Mr. Senile (me) forgot! Thanks for mentioning it, Chuck!  :D

Please note, I DIDN'T  forget but I DIDN'T mention the other lyric/song/movie reference in the same comic by littlestpersimmon:

OOPS! It's yet one more goddamn MERMAID reference in this thread!

Disney's The Little Mermaid  (1989) - 'Part Of Your World'

Uploaded on Dec 31, 2007

FYI:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Part_of_Your_World

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid_(1989_film)

Music
The Little Mermaid
 (soundtrack)

The Little Mermaid  was considered by some as "the film that brought Broadway into cartoons". Alan Menken wrote the Academy Award winning score, and collaborated with Howard Ashman on the songs. One of the film's most prominent songs, "Part of Your World", was nearly cut from the film when it seemingly tested poorly with an audience of school children, who became rowdy during the scene. This caused Jeffrey Katzenberg to feel that the song needed to be cut, an idea that was resisted by Musker, Clements, and Keane. Both Muscker and Clements cited the similar situation of the popular song "Over the Rainbow" nearly being cut from 1939's The Wizard of Oz  when appealing to Katzenberg. Keane pushed for the song to remain until the film was in a more finalized state. During a second test screening, the scene, now colorized and further developed, tested well with a separate child audience, and the musical number was kept.

The Merch has arrived at Ngozi's store--and look what I just bought!   ;D

I'm just trying to supporting Ngozi--I don't feel very acquisitive at the moment, I really don't need anything tangible, except--
I want some of those Samwell Hockey t-shirts/sweatshirts/hoodies!

So--will that make me look like Jack Zimmerrmann??   ::)
