Books you have read
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:38:47 am »
Has anyone ever read "A child called it" by David Peltzer? I read it once and I shall never read it again. It has got to be the most harrowing book I have ever read in my life. How that woman, I won,t call her a mother because she wasn,t, could treat her child like that is just beyond me. The cruelty he was subjected too is like nothing I have ever read before. Absolutly appalling.  :'( :'(

I got two gift cards to Barnes & Noble for Christmas, and I just used them yesterday.

I am always looking to expand my "gay library" so I always head to the gay/lesbian section in any store.

Born This Way - Real Stories of Growing Up Gay by Paul Vitagliano

Based on the hugely popular blog fo the same name, Born This Way shares 100 different memories of growing up LGBTQ.  Childhood photographs are accompanied by sweet, funny, and at times heartbreaking personal stories.  Colleccted from around the world and dating back to the  1940s to today, these memories speak to the hardships of an unaccepting world and the triumph of pride, self-love and self-acceptance.  This intimate little bookis a wonderful gift for all members of the LGBTQ community as well as their friends and families.  Like Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project, Born This Way gives young people everywhere the courage to say, "Yes, I'm gay.  And I was born this way.  I've know it since I was very young, and this is my story."

This was a very quick/easy read, it was childhood photos with brief stories of the people in the pics, by the people in the pics.

If you want to see what the book is like, just go to the blog that inspired it, similiar to the way the DCF spawned "Beyond Brokeback".

I just started this one today.

Since My Last Confession - Scott Pomfret

Scott Pomfret serves as a lector at Saint Anthony Shrine.  He also writes gay porn.  His boyfriend is a flaming atheist, and his boyfriend's Protestant grandmother counts Catholicism a sin worse than sodomy.  Convinced they're going straight to Hell for their wayward beliefs, she still thinks their lives on earth should be as pleasant as possible, so there's always a whoopee pie on the table for them.

From same-sex marriage rallies to pedophile priest scandals, Since My Last Confession maps with matchless humor the full spectrum of the gay Catholic experience, from one end of the rainbow to the other.  Listen in as Scott learns a thing or two abot love and compassion from Father McSlutty, a promiscuous gay priest;  Jezebel, Scott's uber-Catholic sister-in-law;  Father Bear-Daddy, the Shrine's hirsute holy terror; and the Three Hale Marys. Then join Scott on his brave crusade to convince his arch-nemesis, Cardinal O'Malley, to invite him to serve at weekly mass.

Along the way, you'll learn how to detect a gay Catholic, hot to get excommunicated from the comfort of your own living room in three easy steps, why the Sabbath should be on Friday (Sundays are for brunch!), and what a nice erotica writer is doing in a mean church like this.

I recently had some "disposable income" and decided to do some online shopping for some new books.

On the Left:  Encyclopedia Madonnica - 2.0 -  The standard edition of the ultimate book on the Queen of Pop: Madonna! This twentieth-anniversary edition of the book that gets it all down (and gets it all right) is filled with never-before-seen and rare images, as well as fresh interviews. This encyclopedic tome covers every aspect of Madonna's life and career: music, movies, TV, love life, family, tours and more.

On the right:  Madonna:  Ambition.  Music.  Style.  -  Madonna is the top-selling female recording artist of all time, and a fearless, boundary-pushing artist who constantly reinvents herself and her music. Covering every hit record and era-defining image, this authoritative illustrated book examines all of Madonna’s studio albums in fine detail, placing them in context and charting the music's influence on fashion and popular culture. Published to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking Like a Virgin, and featuring a wealth of rare and iconic photographs, Madonna: Ambition. Music. Style. takes a unique and long-overdue look at the legendary star's extraordinary output.
