Where are they now?
« on: January 31, 2017, 11:39:49 am »
I have been toying with the idea of doing a series of posts here about the the many personalities involved with Brokeback Mountain, a decade ago, and what they have gone on to. David's Harbour's speach has got me fired up now, so I will give it a shot, starting with The Orginator:

E. Annie Proulx

Proulx has gone on from the days of Brokeback to build her home in Wyoming, Bird Cloud, the act of which she chronicled in the book by the same name. She has gone on to write the Libretto for the Opera adaptation of Brokeback Mountain, which contains my most favorite line of anything relating to the story :

"I want to live in town, and have a Princess Phone!"

She also in the process, gave us an answer the the long held question we had about the last line Ennis mutters: the tag line I use when I post here: "It was only you in my life, and it will always be only you, Jack, I swear."

Her most recent work, Barkskins, came out last year. I heard an interview on NPR, maybe it was Terry Gross, in which she talked about it. I am going to check it out today.

'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'

I've read a long excerpt from it that was published in the New Yorker and have skimmed the book. It's one of those with a lot of detail and if you're not interested in one or more of the characters, you can skip large chunks.

I'm so excited about your project, Tru! Can't wait to hear more about the many people who made the movie and book possible!!

I tell you what, I went to the library yesterday and checked that book out, all 712 pages of it, it is HUGE. I read the first chapter last night. It seems like it will be a good, long and involved story. I do however, unlike Larry McMurtry, enjoy her short fiction a lot more. Tits Up in a Ditch is my favorite.

Today's post, and I gave it some thought but will go ahead anyway. We all know where Heath Ledger is.....

Following his untimely death in 2008, Heath's ashers were interred with his ancestors in his native Perth, the most isolated major city in the world. Currently there are 16,403 notes on his memorial page on findagrave.com

May he rest in peace.

Jake Gyllenhaal

The survivor of the two main actors of Brokeback Mountain seems to have not slowed down for a second in the past 12 years.

Having appeared in 16 films since 2005, numerous other theatrical productions and most recently the Women's March on Washington, Jake is a Force of Nature all by himself. Look for him next in Wildlife http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5929754/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_5 due out later this year.

Thank you, Truman. We have a whole forum dedicated to Heath, called the Heath Ledger Remembrance Forum. Tributes are still coming in!
