I've driven through some of the ones I left white (Nebraska), or been in an airport (Michigan, Nevada), but decided I had to have spent at least most of a day in a state to count it.

I wasn't that scrupulous.  ::)  If I drove through it, it counted.  ;D

Scrupulous?  Moi?  Non, non, more about just wanting to see where I still need to go.

I guess I haven't gotten around as much as y'all!

As you can see I have taken plenty of "road trips" around the northeast.   Plus I flew to see friends in Florida and a trip to San Fransisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas!

My Kentucky visit was just a drive-thru. In fact, more of a drive-briefly-into-and-then-out-again.

I didn't count fly-throughs or drive-thrus - just ones I've actually spent at least one night in.  Still, pretty sad.

It came out rather coastal.  Don't know much about the country's interior. I've been to California, but not to Northern California and I've been Fllorida, but not South Florida (wanta check out the Florida Keys one of these days).

I definately would like to visit and tour WY, CO, WA, IL (Chicago) and perhaps MI (the areas around the Great Lakes, UP)

I've been to...

...Texas (born and bred), Louisiana (last in 1985), Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah (in 1984), Arizona, Nevada, California (last in 1990), Hawaii (twice, in 1981 and 1982), Virginia (in 1980), Maryland (in 1980), and, even though it's not a state, I have once visited the District of Columbia (in 1980).

This thread needs a *bump*!!  I believe some of us can add Colorado and maybe Wyoming to our 'States Visited' list!  So, 35 down and 15 to go.  AND I came away from the BBQ with an invite to Alaska...cool, huh?  8)

Ooohh, just found this thread!  Not bad for an Aussie who has only been to the US twice - 3 weeks in total.  And that included nearly a week in Vermont (BEAUTIFUL place!!) and 1 week in Michigan.

In Pennsylvania I stayed one night on my way back from the Denver BBQ, when I missed my flight connection. So Pennsylvania truly counts, but I was very generous with Montana . I counted it because the Twist farm was directly at the Montana border and I walked a few meters into Montana  ;D.

One year ago, the whole map would have been grey. Not one visit to the US back then.
Next year I'll add three more states to the list  :).

I keep thinking that I have been through some part of Kentucky before, but I left it white cause I can't really remember for sure. I did include drive through states, but most of these were long drive throughs. I also included two flight stops - Minnesota and Michigan. I saw them therefore I was there and on the ground. I included Montana since on the Wyoming roadtrip I walked into Montana for a ways up the dirt road and I crossed the state line several times to make sure I could say I had been there  ;)

David I promise I will come and see Indiana. I've always thought it would be a great state to see and now I know someone there  :)

I was just joking with you Jack! And I would love it if you came to Indiana sometime. :)

This thread needs a *bump*!!  I believe some of us can add Colorado and maybe Wyoming to our 'States Visited' list!  So, 35 down and 15 to go.  AND I came away from the BBQ with an invite to Alaska...cool, huh?  8)

or check out these Google Hacks.

I get to add Ohio now!  But I'm having trouble getting the image to display properly...maybe Dev will have better luck.  I'm going to try again later.

visited 7 states (14%)

I also updated mine :). I added three states from my trip last year (Maine, Massachusetts, Wisconsin). And in May, I can update again and add New York! :D
As usual, I was generous with counting the states. I had a stopover in Milwaukee on my way from Boston to Denver,, so I added Wisconsin ;D.

visited 15 states (30%)

Not bad for someone who had never been to the US before BBM.

Our Brokie train trip last year spanned 7 states, 5 of which were new ones for me.

The first state I visited was Florida in 1991 - I was 13 years old and went on holiday with my aunt and uncle. It was my first time on a plane and it was HUGE for me. My next visit wasn´t until 2003 (at age 25) when I went to New York. 2006 I visited the west coast for the first time (California and Nevada) and in 2008 I jumped on a plane to Denver to meet up with Brokies. The rest is Brokie history.

5 other states I´d like to see are North Dakota, Alaska, Kansas, Vermont and Michigan.

Not Indiana, Monika? You don't want to visit Indiana? I noticed you've been to Illinois, so you were almost here! Illinois is right next door!

Not bad at all Chrissi! You've been to both coasts, and all up and down the Pacific coast! Poor Idaho though. It looks so lonely not lit up. You went all around it!

Maybe you can visit Idaho the next time you come stateside! They have wonderful baked potatoes there! ;)

Yup! Indianapolis is the capitol Monika! I am impressed! 8)

You really should visit here sometime though. Seriously. We have lovely Lake Michigan and Amish Country up in the north, beautiful rolling hills, forests and rivers in the south and the bustling capitol city of Indianapolis right smack in the middle. There's lots of good food, wonderful museums, several excellent zoos, lots and lots of shopping and plenty of friendly hospitable people to welcome you. It's not the most exciting place in the world, but it's worth checking out - a day or two at least as you're passing through. ;) 8)

Put it on your list! :D

From your description Indiana sounds similar to Pennsylvania ( a state I liked very much).

It's very confusing.

"Capital" refers to a city or town that is the seat of government; to a capital letter as opposed to a lowercase letter; and to wealth or resources.  "Capital" can also be an adjective (i.e. capital city, capital letter).

"Capitol" refers primarily to the building in Washington, D.C., in which Congress sits or to similar buildings used by state legislatures.

So, you could say that the Capitol is in the capital.

I learned to remember that "capitol" referred to the actual building by associating it with the "o" in dome.

For me it was thinking of the top of a column, and capitol buildings frequently have lots of Greek columns.
