Jack is here
« on: December 09, 2006, 07:50:25 am »
The wind is gusting to 25 mph here today, according to weather.com.  Bullroar - it's gotta be more like 30-35.  It's howling outside the windows and whipping through the eureka palms like it does at the onset of a tropical storm.  He's here.  Is he where you are today, too?

He was here yesterday Barb.    The wind was howling around my house.  It felt like I was in Riverton, Wyoming!  I wanted to look out my window and see Jacks beat up black truck come up my street, backfire and then pull into my driveway.

He was here a few days ago, strong wind gusts that nearly blew me off my bike! It's all Jack....

 Barb -

Yep, he's here today, full force.  Maybe it's Jack's way of saying 'Happy Anniversary' to all of us.   ;D  In my town today the wind is 30 mph (according to Weather.com) and 38 mph over in San Francisco.  Nothing compared to Wyoming wind, of course, so I'm adding these visuals to put things in perspective:

Gotta love Big Wonderful Wyoming's 'State Tree'!

It was windy and rainy here off and on today.  I was indoors listening to it with Nicks Dachsund, Butch.  Cute little guy.

Oh, I like this! 8) 8)  I live in a very windy place. Was out biking a bit earlier today and getting back home proved a tiring and annoying exercise because I had strong winds pushing me backwards as I was struggling on, without any let-up.  From now on when that happens I'll just imagine it's Jack passing by and making himself known. Will make it a much more happy experience!

The trees are barely moving here.

I love wind, but my allergies don't.  All that dust and crap stirred up.

I remember those years in Wyoming.  First place I'd ever seen 'Wind Warning' signs in the middle of a prairie.  Then we actually saw the results of a typical summer thunderstorm there while driving on the freeway.  18 wheelers were pulling over, trying to steer into the wind,  RVs actually blown over.  Scary.

WOW!  This is really amazing.  :o

Yesterday (Saturday) I read in the paper that there were unusually high waves, so I bicyled out the the beach along the Pacific Ocean to look at them, before the rain started.  For some reason I took my camera.  I didn't think about Jack until I read this thread and remembered that some of my wave photos show the wind blowin water off the tops of the waves and foam blowin along the beach.  For those of you who know San Francisco, these are pictures at Ocean Beach and Seal Rocks off the Cliff House.

Is there anything interesting up there in heaven?

Beautiful pictures, Pete!  I would've recognized those rocky formations even if you hadn't told where they were.  The rain must have washed off their usual 'snowcaps' (bird-poo  )  I LOVE all the rain and wind  we've been experiencing out here lately.  Pete, you might be the only one who'd know why thinking of the Cliff House makes me mad!

The Cliff House has evolved:

Pete, thank you for the pics!  :) Good ones! I can really hear and feel the wind there!

A full storm is blowing around the house as I write this, and I'm sure the sea looks just like in your pictures too, if it wasn't too dark to see it. Yep, Jack sure is still around, and just now he's not in a very good mood.......

Same here, Mikaela - he's still around here, and he's not in a very good mood.  He's still whipping the palm trees into a frenzy and howling outside my windows.  He knocked our garbage cans on the side of the house over in the middle of the night.  Luckily no animals disturbed the contents that were spilled all around.  And some weak limbs are down here and there.

Pete, beautiful pictures.  I took Will to look out at our right coast sea today.  Just as I expected, it was green-blue-grey and the wind was whipping the tops off the whitecaps.  The surfers were in Heaven!  Will got some sand in his eyes, which signaled the end of the interview, as it were.

Kirk, nice to see you here again!  And it sounds like you're right where you're supposed to be.  In the words of Jon Bon Jovi, who says you can't go home again?  (Thomas Paine, actually, Jon, if you're really interested).

Melinda, I LOVE the Wyoming Wind Sock.  :)

OK, I've decided Jack must *really* like South Florida this time of year.  He whipped the bejesus out of my nice little French twist today - picked the wrong day to try a new hair-do, I reckon - and that was just from walking from the parking lot to my office door.  It's a cold wind, too - makes my heart hurt thinking of him.

I think I need to call Shrink in a Box or something - if only there were drive-thru therapists...

Jack arrived in the Rocky Mountains last nite! I didn't know what y'all were talking about, but now I do!! He manhandled my little hybrid car as I was tumbling down the Front Range.

Look what Jack did to this poor kiteboarder down here back on November 29th:

http://www.underwatertimes.com/news.php?article_id=20819107463

Jack's still blowing like crazy here today, but he's getting a bit overwhelmed by the torrential downpour and flash-flooding we're experiencing.  Alma, perhaps?

Jack's been raging around outside here quite often lately. And I've figured the constant downpour accompanying him had to beJack's tears.  :'( But I'm *so* with you in finding some other explanation for it. Constant cold rain for weeks and months on end is depressing enough without relating it directy to sorrowful Jack.....

Nearly one year down the road, and Jack is definitely here tonight. We've got a full storm going at the moment, it's a little frightening and the first reports of unusual wave heights, power outages and trees falling can be seen on the net.

But I still have to smile once I relate the wind to Jack. Some things never change.  :)

Hi Mikaela,

Thanks for reviving this really lovely old thread.  :)

Take care Bud! I certainly hope the storm doesn't get too dramatic. :-\

Yes, maybe it's good to think of it as Jack just really missing Ennis tonight... Or maybe he's simply paying you a visit and wants to get your attention.

Thank you, guys.  :) Luckily the storm passed without many incidents here where I live. We're back to the normal by now, cold rain and sleet and the occasional gale.  ::)  I seriously have to echo Jack now: Why is it we're always in the friggin' cold? I'd like to go to Mexico, too...

Brrrr.....  *turns up heat in room*

This'll sound crazy as hell, but oh, well...

After witnessing three hurricanes in less than as many years, one the eye of which passed directly over my town, wind was not my favorite thing.  It kinda freaked me out, in fact, when I used to quite enjoy it.  Relating it to Jack comforts me, too.  We haven't had hurricane force ones here since 2005, thank goodness, but we did have a bunch of really gusty days (up to 35) strung together a couple weeks ago.  I loved lying in bed at night and listening to it howl - no, roar - outside.  I figured Jack was tired of being in the friggin' cold and hanging out in Florida for a spell.
