This Garth song has special meaning to me!
It reminds me of someone I love!

A new way to fly

Like birds on a high line
They line up at night time at the bar
They all once were lovebirds
Now bluebirds are all that they are
They landed in hell
The minute they fell from love's sky
And now they hope in the wine
That they'll find a new way to fly

A new way to fly
Far away from goodbye
Above the clouds and the rain
The memories and the pain
And the tears that they cry
Now the lessons been learned
They've all crashed and burned
But they can leave it behind
If they could just find
A new way to fly

By the end of the night
They'll be high as a kite once again
And they don't seem to mind all the time
Or the money they spend
It's a high price to pay
to just find a way to get by
But it's worth every dime
If they find a new way to fly

A new way to fly
Far away from goodbye
Above the clouds and the rain
The memories and the pain
And the tears that they cry
Now the lessons been learned
They've all crashed and burned
But they can leave it behind
If they could just find
A new way to fly

They'll leave it behind
As soon as they find
A new way to fly

Thank you for BBM Radio, I love what I've heard of it.

Do we have anything by The Mavericks on BBM radio?  "Dream River", "To Be With  You", and "I've Got This Feeling" from "Trampoline" really remind me of our beautiful boys.  Not that just about any song I hear doesn't! ;)

"To Be With  You" especially reminds me of when Ennis received the first postcard from Jack.  Raul Malo has a big, dramatic "Roy Orbison" style voice, and it's in keeping with the country theme of BBM radio.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly is mine!

Also "You're Gone" by Diamond Rio reminds me of our boys too.

Thanks!

I so agree!  I swoon over Raul's voice too.  I haven't heard "In My Dreams", but I'll give it a listen.  I love the lyrics.  You're right, Raul does have that "cry" in his voice, like Patsy Cline ("Sweet Dreams of You" - should be titled "I Wish I Knew How To Quit You") and Roy Orbison.  I also agree about Patsy Cline and Cyndi Lauper's version of "I Drove All Night" (should be titled "I Redlined It All The Way").  She captures the emotion best in her version, I think.  :)

I love hands tied! I always have. That was one of my favorites from the album.
I think that would be a good fit.  ;D

Hey all,

I would like to add another one of my all-time favorite Springsteen songs:

Blood Brothers - Bruce Springsteen

We played king of the mountain out on the end
The world come chargin' up the hill, and we were women and men
Now there's so much that time, time and memory fade away
We got our own roads to ride and chances we gotta take
We stood side by side each one fightin' for the other
We said until we died we'd always be blood brothers

Now the hardness of this world slowly grinds your dreams away
Makin' a fool's joke out of the promises we make
And what once seemed black and white turns to so many shades of gray
We lose ourselves in work to do and bills to pay
And it's a ride, ride, ride, and there ain't much cover
With no one runnin' by your side my blood brother

On through the houses of the dead past those fallen in their tracks
Always movin' ahead and never lookin' back
Now I don't know how I feel, I don't know how I feel tonight
If I've fallen 'neath the wheel, if I've lost or I've gained sight
I don't even know why, I don't why I made this call
Or if any of this matters anymore after all

But the stars are burnin' bright like some mystery uncovered
I'll keep movin' through the dark with you in my heart
My blood brother

WOW! That is so perfect for our boys.
I have never heard that song but the lyrics are sad and poignant!
Thanks for sharing that one!

I heard this being sung on the radio this morning by Otis Redding and I thought it was such a perfect song for Jack to sing to Ennis.

I've been loving you too long to stop now

There were time and you wanted to be free
My love is growing stronger, as you become a habit to me
Oh I've been loving you a little too long
I dont wanna stop now, oh
With you my life,
Has been so wonderful
I can't stop now

There were times and your love is growing cold
My love is growing stronger as our affair grows old
I've been loving you a little too long, long,
I don't want to stop now
oh, oh, oh
I've been loving you a little bit too long
I don't wanna stop now
No, no, no

Don't make me stop now
No baby
I'm down on my knees Please, don't make me stop now
I love you, I love you,
I love you with all of my heart
And I can't stop now
Don't make me stop now
Please, please don't make me stop now
Good god almighty I love you
I love you, I love you, I love you
I love you, I love you
I love you in so many different ways...
I love you in so many different ways....

Jack never gave up on Ennis.  :-*

Here are some good ones from Mary Chapin Carpenter:

Come On Home

Slowly as you look at me
In your eyes I can't believe
All the love I'm seeing now
Plain as day to me somehow
Oh, love, come on home

Promises a heart can keep
Happiness is you and me
Never was a dream so right
Love has finally come in sight
Oh, love, come on home

You fit into my life and
You seem so right like someone planned it
You give yourself to me and
You give so easily, seems like you always understand

Everything says you are the one
Time is shining like the sun
Telling my heart what to say
Growing old with you someday
Oh, love, come on home....

All the words don't match but ya gotta love a song about an old shirt

This Shirt
(Mary Chapin Carpenter)

This shirt is old and faded
All the color's washed away
I've had it now for more damn years
Than I can count anyway
I wear it beneath my jacket
With the collar turned up high
So old  I should replace it
But I'm not about to try

This shirt's got silver buttons
And a place upon the sleeve
Where I used to set my heart up
Right there anyone could see
This shirt is the one I wore to every boring high school dance
Where the boys ignored the girls
And we all pretended to like the band

This shirt was a pillow for my head
On a train through Italy
This shirt was a blanket beneath the love
We made in Argeles
This shirt was lost for three whole days
In a town near Buffalo
'Till I found the locker key
In a downtown Trailways bus depot

This shirt was the one I lent you
And when you gave it back
There was a rip inside the sleeve
Where you rolled your cigarettes
It was the place I put my heart
Now look at where you put a tear
I forgave your thoughtlessness
But not the boy who put it there

This shirt was the place your cat
Decided to give birth to five
And we stayed up all night watching
And we wept when the last one died
This shirt is just an old faded piece of cotton
Shining like the memories
Inside those silver buttons

This shirt is a grand old relic
With a grand old history
I wear it now for Sunday chores
Cleaning house and raking leaves
I wear it beneath my jacket
With the collar turned up high
So old I should replace it
But I'm not about to try

Can't Take Love For Granted
(Mary Chapin Carpenter)

When I spoke what was on my mind
I wasn’t thinking of your heart
I wasn’t thinking bout the things I said
That landed us so far apart
And now my world is ending baby
With a chance remark
No, you can’t take love for granted

You look at me with your wounded eyes
And I look back with fear
There used to be such faith between us, now, darlin'
Now it’s just not here
And the door was slammed hours ago
But it’s still ringing in my ears
No, you can’t take love for granted

It was a funny way to show I love you
A funny way to care
It’s a funny thing to be without you
As empty as your stare

You can’t take love for granted
It’s got its own free will
It’s got a mind of its own when it wants one, baby
And looks that can kill
One day you’re in heaven darling
The next you feel like hell
No, you can’t take love for granted

You can speak what’s on your mind
If you’ve got a gambler’s heart
You can be the truth incarnate
You can shoot straight in the dark
You can pull the moon down baby
With a lasso made of stars
But no, you can’t take love for granted
No, you can’t take love for granted no
Baby, don't take love for granted
