First he makes me find a tacky 70's moustache unbearably sexy in Brokeback Mountain.... Now the beard.  He's had it for a while now folks but with these new pictures of him at the Laker's game, I'm suddenly in love with it, YUM  ::)

Check out this cutie!

I've always been fond of what are actually Van Dykes but what are commonly refered to now as goatees.  I think Jake's beard is very sexy as well.  Those eyes just pop against that dark frame.

I hear you all.  I work with a lovely young man who grew a goatee after seeing how it made Joseph Fiennes' eyes pop in Shakespeare in Love, and now he's growing a beard a la Jake for the same reason.  He's got that rich medium brown hair and doe eyes with mile-long eyelashes, too.  Can't wait to see how it, ahem, turns out.

Barb,

If I worked with your co-worker ... well, I wouldn't get much work done, let's put it that way!

Kissing a man without facial hair is like eating an egg without salt. It's perfectly possible and OK, but not nearly as much fun!  ;)

So please pop over to JakeWatch and give your well needed suport to Dill and the "SOD Campain".

Oh, I know.  My first love had quite the pornstache.  Still has, I reckon.  And he had those doe eyes, too, only deep, dark and delicious brown with red and gold flecks.  And his eyelashes were a mile and half long and twice as thick.  Damn him.

Ya know, Jake with a pornstache, Jake clean-shaven, Jake with a few days' growth, Jake with a full beard--in the end, all that really matters is, it's Jake. ...

(I guess whether or not he's got facial hair, he's still got that happy trail. ...  ;D )

Damn, all these guys I'm hearing about with great lashes, and all I've got are ordinary blue eyes and hardly any lashes to notice. My mother had beautiful long natural eyelashes. So who do I take after? My father. ...

I got the long lashes in my family - they actually come from my father.  My son got 'em also, blue eyes and strawberry blond hair and all, God bless 'im.  My husband has the beautifully deep blue eye color, but no lashes or brows to speak of.  It's so interesting to see how the genes play out.  Will has his smallish, shortish eyebrows but my long, thick, dark lashes.  We can't figure out whose nose he has, though - doesn't seem to be either of ours!

In the ancient Greek world, facial hair was a sign of wisdom and maturity. It certainly seems to make his facial expressions resonate with a great deal of deeper meaning. It is fascinating how a beard adds so much geometric beauty to an already ideal structure. It adds angles which denote attention and which can be easily followed.

There is always beauty in a focused attention. It denotes consciousness and thought and the perplexing ideals of an emotional existance. It is undeniably human, and resonates with those feelings that are ultimately human about how important it is to strive to be more than human.

That whole biting of the finger thing in Romeo and Juliet has some profound meaning, which I right now can't remember. I think it was something about chopping off thumbs.

Can you PM it to me? Or you can email it to me (send to the MSN address in my profile).

I prefer the four day beard growth. The grizzly beard look tends to obscure his chiseled, yet angluar face. He looked his best on Oscar night.  :)

Saw photos from ZODIAC. He's going cleancut.  I thought a film set in the 1970's, it would be perfectly acceptable for the bearded look.

No I will have to load it up to the computer from my camera, but my mum is on my ass to get of the net cause apparently I, "Spend too long on that damn computer, it is not good for you..." I read an essay recently that this gesture, mentioned in Romeo and Juliet, is the precursor to the Sicilian taunt of biting the thumb nail and flicking the hand at an opponent.  Makes sense.  It is amazing how the gesture evolved.  Historically the biting of the thumb was a frequent insult in Elizabethan England  one that Shakespeare's audiences were sure to identify with.

Ah yes the essays! Damn my teacher she made me right a 6 page essay just on Romeo's actions. It was easy to right about a page but then I got really hard up on material. But hey, I got an A for the essay so I am happy. I enjoyed R+J but I like the film with Claire Danes better. Much better than Macbeth, that I had to do last year....snoozefest or what? I did like the murder bit and the symobolism but when we had to go and see the play it bored the pants off me! The only thing that amused me was the quality of the acting. I think the bus trip home was better, but that was mainly because it ended up with me daring someone to moon out the window at a passing lorry and he actually did it! Sorry I am re-living memories, I will shut up.

Oh yes someone asked why Dill is called Dill. Well Dill is what we have christened Jake's beardy-beard. There is some method behind our madness though. Seeing as Jake has named his dogs after characters from "To Kill a Mockingbird" we thought we would continue the pattern by naming his beard after a character from that book.
Join the Dill fan club below:

Thank you Vicky. That would be the profound meaning I was talking about.

I hated Macbeth too, but not as much as Anthony and Cleopatra. On a whole, I am not fond of Shakespeare. I do, however, ADORE the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstein are Dead (which is nothing like Shakespeare but set, as they say, in the wings of Hamlet).

What Becky, you are useless! Not being able to PM me your egg. Don't know why I keep you around.

It wasn't Romeo or Tybalt involved in the 'biting the thumb' insult.

I think it was just a couple of retainers from the Montague and Capulet households who parried the words in the early part of the play.

I love Jake's days old growth look - not everyone can pull it off and not look sloppy - but I'm really against full facial hair.  That bias comes from my early days working for a Harley Davidson biker guy who had full facial hair who liked to comment on what he could still smell in his beard after intimate encounters.

Nice for him I guess, but yucky for everyone else.

Now, when I see a man with facial hair, all I can think of is that if I get close enough to kiss him, I'll probably be able to smell what he's been smoking, what he's been eating (and maybe see some of it  :P ) and possibly who he's been doin'.

Eech.  Clean shaven for me, thank you very much.

How is it coming with those quiz questions?

Ohh Good idea Mandy, we need to start a mission to get those glasses off him.
