Horoscope

Virgo, Aug 22nd-Sept 22nd:
Your carreer will face a setback this week, but your love life will make up for it. Make the most of it.

Darn, this was certainly true for him. Not that Ennis believed in such hooey. But the coming week with Jack had cost him yet another job and he planned to take advantage of every minute they would have together. Sure was worth the damned job. He'll find another one. Always did.

Love life.

The words caught his eye.

Quickly Ennis closed the paper.

Small Grains and Big Dreams

Jack sighed heavily while looking at Bobby's report card.  The kid couldn't hardly read but Lureen just buried her head in the sand, refusing to see things as they really were.   Bobby wasn't gonna just suddenly change.

He threw the report card onto the counter and went back to his newspaper, the ad for the small ranch catching his eye again, and he turned his thoughts to that long-held dream. But as he let his mind wander with sweet images, he paused to wonder about the difference between keeping your head in the sand or high up in the clouds.

Stuff and Nonsense

He cringed inwardly every time Alma said the words, which seemed to be at the drop of a hat to everyone she came across.  Apparently, she was a fiancée and she told him that he was one, too, only with one less "e" whatever the hell that meant.  He sure didn't have use for such damn fancy sounding nonsense.

And then the way she kept "practicing" her soon-to-be name on any scrap of paper within reach.  "Alma del Mar," "Mrs. Alma del Mar," and even, "Mrs. Ennis del Mar."

"Don't look right," he kept thinking.  "Don't look right at all."
