Stunts - where ?
« on: February 05, 2007, 06:34:37 pm »
OK, so Jake G. chickened out jumping into the lake from a 10-foot-or-so cliff.
Bull riding was another time when a stunt was used.
The GMC truck driver at the beginning was probably another stunt.

There were also stunts for Heath (falling off the horse when he encountered the bear, I think).

Any other stunts used where Heath and Jake couldn't handle.

Looking forward to replies.

Affectionately,

Pierre -  ;)

If that were the case, then BBM goes out the window.

Seriously, though, what other scenes when stunts were used?

Pierre -  ???

I know Anne Hathaway has a stunt rider for her barrel racing scene -- she rode the horse slowly, but couldn't do the fast stuff.

I close my eyes for the scene with Jack being beaten, so I don't know if that's actually Jake in that scene. I think I've heard someone say that it isn't... but that isn't a scene I enjoy watching at full speed, let alone in slow motion.
Watch out. That poster has a low startle point.

Didn't this topic come up somewhere else?  ???

I could be imagining it, but I think I remember someone asking, somewhere, whether there were legal/contractual reasons--like being already committed to Jarhead, which filmed after Brokeback--that Jake wasn't permitted to jump off that cliff? I don't remember if there was an answer. ...  :-\

I really, really want to say, "You shut up about Jake, maybe it ain't his fault," but that wouldn't be very nice, would it?  ;D

Ooops. I guess I just said it. ...  ;)

The question was about where stunts were used besides the ones I believe were used, nothing to do about Jake G.
Maybe someone out there can understand my initial question.

Jack’s beating--yes, that’s really Gyllenhaal

Yeah, if you look at the caps on striped wall, it's really him.

and the Black & Blue Eagle fight--Ledger told the man (the head wrangler, by the way) playing the truck driver to go all out.

That's interesting.  Didn't know that!

I understood you perfectly. You missed my point.

In your initial post you said Jake "chickened out" of jumping off the cliff. I suggested that maybe there were reasons he wasn't permitted to jump off that cliff that had nothing to do with personal bravery or cowardice.

And then I alluded to Ennis's line on the first camping trip.

Jack says to Ennis, "You and Alma, that's a life?"

And Ennis responds, "You shut up about Alma, this ain't her fault."

Get it? "You shut up about Jake, maybe it ain't his fault."  ;D
