The Full Moon
« on: February 15, 2007, 02:18:52 am »
We all know the full moon affects the ocean and the tides, but does it have an effect on people too?

Many policemen and women will tell you the crime rate is much higher during a full moon. Some doctors also claim that the emergency rooms are busier during this time.

What do you think? Does the full moon affect people's behavior?

I think it does. Since it seems to affect liquid (ocean water) perhaps it affects blood too, which is also a liquid.

Things always seem crazier when there is a full moon. I don't know why.

As a teacher, I've seen kids act up often enough when there's a full moon, to believe that it does influence people (at least children anyway). How it does though, I sure don't understand.

I definitely believe that moon cycles, seasons, atmospheric pressure - all of nature's rhythms - have a more profound influence on us than we realise. It's just that modern living has made us less attuned to it.

I believe it does.....I've seen people act very out of character when the full moon is out.

It affects me most right before the full moon. Or maybe it's that, by the time the moon is full, I've gotten control of myself!

I think this makes perfect sense...the moon controls the tides...we're something like 70% water...how could it not affect us at some level?

Yes, definitely. Ask any police officer or any bartender!

I was thinking mostly along the lines of blood, when I posted this. But you right, we are mostly made of water. It seems weird to me how something hundreds of thousands of miles away, in space, can have such an affect on us. But apparently it does. :-\

That is something I will NEVER understand!

Someone has to be the odd one out, and this time it's me ;D.

A No from me. All those alleged phenomenons, all those bartender, midwife, policeman, or whoe-else-not experiences are cases of selective perception.

I'm just reading a scientific book. Interestingly, it has one (small) chapter about the full moon and its alleged effects. It is about a scientific experiment in a German hospital. All nurses, midwifes, doctors on the obstetric unit swore that there is an effect. They said: in nights with the full moon, significantly more children are born. (I had heard of this believe before, it's quite common).
Over two years, they made a statisitc, for everybody to see. A red dot for a baby-girl, a blue dot for a baby-boy. After the two years, no significant difference was found between full moon nights and other nights.

Personally, I have never felt any effects of the full moon, nor has anyone in my family. I do like the full moon very much, it's beautiful, it has something dreamy to it, and I like it even more since BBM.
But effects? - No.
