Winter Wind in Wyoming

Why does the winter wind blow

All the time?

We close our eyes against the grit and snow,

And cannot see other people

We pull our hats down to protect our earlobes from the cold,

And cannot hear human voices

We put on warm gloves to protect our hands from frostbite,

And cannot feel the touch of another’s hand

We put on pairs of socks inside high boots to keep our feet from freezing,

And cannot feel last year’s leaves and branches under our feet,

We put on layers of clothing to keep our bodies warm

And cannot feel the beating of another heart.

We become frosted islands in a sea

Of blowing cold,

And still the winter wind

Blows all the time.

If someone can post a decent link, I'll take it down from here. It's on fanfiction.
