Without You (Sorry - couldn't find the lyricist's name)

No I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way
The story goes
You always smile but in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows
No I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
When I had you there
But then I let you go
And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live
If living is without you
I can't live
I can't give anymore
I can't live
If living is without you
I can't give
I can't give anymore

That's beautiful ednbarby! I love that song.

Some more... sorry can't help it...

Neil Diamond - A fool for you
It's all because of you
You've gone beyond all my pride
To where my dream world begins
To where the little man hides
I need you so bad
And you're so far inside me now
That I can't turn you away
Well, you're so far inside me now
That I hardly know
What to say or what to do
I'm a fool for you

And what about another Fleetwood Mac song?

Big Love
Looking out for love
In the night so still
Oh I'll build you a kingdom
In that house on the hill Looking
out for love
Big, big love
You said that you
love me
And that you always will

Linda Ronstadt - You'll never be the sun
You'll never be the sun
Turning in the sky
And you won't be the moon above us
On a moonlit night
And you won't be the stars in heaven
Although they burn so bright
But even on the deepest ocean
You will be the light

You may not always shine as you go
Barefoot over stone
You might be so long together
Or you might walk alone
And you won't find that love comes easy
But that love is always right
So even when the dark clouds gather
You will be the light

And if you lose the part inside
When love turns 'round on you
Leaving the past behind
Is knowing you'll do like you always do
Holding you blind
Keeping you true

Oh, I love "Landslide"...it's probably my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. I had never thought of it in regard to BBM before, but now that you mention it, it's very evocatively appropriate. Thanks!

Another song, penned and performed by Stevie Nicks, which seems less apposite in connection to Brokeback but which nevertheless conveys some of the same wistful beauty in "Landslide", is "After the Glitter Fades". I don't have the lyrics on me right now, but one line is permanently embedded in my memory: "The loneliness of a one-night stand is hard to take"...that could sum up so much of Jack's experience right there.

Scott M.

Hi Scott, I will look up that song on itunes, thanks! I love this thread!

I just heard this on the radio - it's the new single from British band Snow Patrol. Made me think of the boys...  :'(

"Chasing Cars"

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Will you stop playing with that radio of yours, I'm trying to get to sleep!

'After the Glitter Fades'...for Jack and Ennis
« Reply #154 on: July 06, 2006, 10:19:33 am »
I found the lyrics to "After the Glitter Fades" online, and, while knowing the song's poignancy, found that the lyrics are much more apposite to Ennis and Jack's story than I had imagined. This is for them, and for all whose hearts they have touched so profoundly (words by Stevie Nicks, 1981):

Well, I never thought I'd make it
Here in Hollywood...
I never thought I'd ever want to stay...
What I seem to touch these days
Has turned to gold...
What I seem to want
Well, you know I'll find a way

For me, it's the only life
That I've ever known
And love is only one fine star away
Even though the living
Is sometimes laced with lies...
It's all right...
The feeling remains
Even after the glitter fades

The loneliness of a one-night stand
Is hard to take
We all chase something
And maybe this is a dream
The timeless face of a rock and roll woman--
While her heart breaks
Oh you know, the dream keeps coming
Even when you forget to feel

For me, it's the only life
That I've ever known
And love is only one fine star away
Even though the living
Is sometimes laced with lies...
It's all right...
The feeling remains
Even after the glitter fades

Oh you know...
The feeling remains
Even after the glitter fades...

Hi Mel

Here's the link to their official website:

http://www.snowpatrol.com/

If you stay on the home page for a while they play songs from the new album. I haven't got that one yet, but I loved their last album 'Final Straw' - 'Chocolate' is my favourite track. I just love the lead singer's voice!
Will you stop playing with that radio of yours, I'm trying to get to sleep!

Behind Blue Eyes ~ Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And if I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
No more beans!

Here Comes The Rain Again ~ Eurythmics

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
(here it comes again, here it comes again, love)
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?
No more beans!

Walking on Broken Glass ~ Annie Lennox

You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
But I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you.
Since you've abandoned me
My whole life has crashed
Won't you pick the pieces up
'Cause it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass...
(Walking on walking on broken glass)

The sun's still shining in the big blue sky
But it don't mean nothing to me.
Let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me...
I'm living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I've got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass...
(Walking on walking on broken glass)

And if you're trying to cut me down
You know that I might bleed.
'Cause if you're trying to cut me down
I know that you'll succeed...
And if you want to hurt me
There's nothing left to fear
'Cause if you want to hurt me
You do it really well from here...

Now every one of us was made to suffer
Every one of us is made to weep
We've been hurting one another
And now the pain has cut too deep...
So take me from the wreckage
Save me from the blast
Lift me up and take me back
Don't let me keep on walking...
Walking on broken glass.
