The "I LOVE everything Alma" thread
« on: April 23, 2006, 12:35:08 pm »
I'm sure that some people will feel that to omit Alma from the love that is going around with these threads would be a travesty. Thus the incorporation of the not so unimportant

The "I LOVE everything Alma" thread :) :D 8) :-\ ;D  No kidding, take this seriously! ;)

I LOVE Alma's taste in men ( but I guess that could be said of Cassie or Jack)  :-*

Anyhoot, one thought per post please

like anybody ever listens to that kind of notice ... Ha!

I love how Alma says, "You forgettin' somethin'?" when Ennis almost leaves his creel case behind - perhaps even the one in which the note is tied to his line.

I love Alma for not viciously "outing" Ennis to all the neighbours after she discovered what was up.
I love that she dint create a hell of a scene after catching them snugging at the bottom of the stairs.  I mean, she could've majorly freaked out, yelled profanities at the top of her lungs and hurled kitchen sharp utensils at them.. ;D
I love her for keeping her cool and taking a second to catch her breath.

[We used to have a neighbour who whacked her husband over the head with a frying pan when she found out he was having an affair...Thankfully, he dint die, but was in hospital for a week!  Good thing Alma didnt freak out in a similar manner! lol  ;D]

I love Alma's effort to keep the family finances above water, by taking the extra shift. Ennis can't understand, or appreciate it, but SOMEONE has to pay the bills and Ennis (though I Love him) doesn't seem to mange the household finances as well as he wishes he would. She made the meal - Ennis can serve it!

I love that from the other room Alma knows Alma Jr.'s nose needs wiping.

I love that Alma didn't think they should sit so close to the front at the fireworks display because Jenny might get scared.

I LOVE  Alma for the 4 years of relative pleasure and contentment that she gave Ennis after he came down from the mountain. The toboggan scene, the movie scene, the children ... they were good years.

Why aren't there more posts here?????

After the night at the Motel Siesta, Ennis comes home and finds Alma sitting at the dinette table, in between a cup of bitter black coffee and a sugar dispenser. She is facing toward the sugar, but when he comes in, she turns and faces towards the coffee. Yup, that's how it is, and that's why I love Alma.

A question: with Alma's sewing machine prominently featured against the wall of the living room, and with Alma's knitting, I wonder if there are other parallels to Penelope in the character of Alma? Penelope was the wife of the lead character in the Odessey.

Why aren't there more posts here?????

If you judge the BBM women's popularity by number of posts, then Alma is less popular than Lureen, Alma Jr. -- or even LaShawn!  :o  And she's neck-and-neck with Cassie (though this post will put Alma ahead). Of course, the most popular woman by far, gauging by post numbers, is Jack's mom.

But maybe post numbers can be deceiving. There are more posts in the I LOVE Everything Ennis thread than there are in the I LOVE Everything Jack thread. Yet it's my impression that there actually are more people who love everything Jack.

Thanks for helping Alma pull ahead of Cassie, Katherine! We've got a mares' race goin here I guess. Another thing I love about Alma is how she says, "Sure enough" when Ennis introduces her to Jack. Her "sure enough" is undoubtedly the precursor to "Yeah, right" the famous double positive that makes a negative. She's just been handed a sucker-punch by those two guys, her supposed mate and his best friend, and yet she has the resilience to deliver a come-back line.

I just looked up "alma mater" in the dictionary, and it means, fostering mother.

I love Alma for separating from Ennis!

This way Ennis can think more about Jack, and about his own life as maybe a gay man?

Hugs!

I loved Alma most for her bootstraps approach to her life.  After seeing that it wouldnt be as
she had hoped.  Neither financially or lovingly.  She decided to make a new try, and try for something
that would at least be comfortable and financially secure, both for herself, and her children....

I just found a real-life Alma! The actress Isabell Jewell was born in Shoshoni, Wyoming, one of the litte towns Ang Lee visited during his tour to get the flavor of the site. Doesn't she look a lot like Alma, when you strip out the makeup?

Yes! If you'd posted this on the GTPPOT thread, we'd guess it's Michelle Williams in old-timey makeup and hair.

Back to Michelle, I hear she's singing, dancing and acting well in the upcoming "Fosse/Verdon" show on FX. And. as for Sam Rockwell playing Bob Fosse, they say he's a real "dancing machine"!!

And what's this about Jake playing Leonard Bernstein? Bring it on!
