Rawhide
« on: April 26, 2007, 01:16:37 am »
Hi,

I'm new here and I had a fanfic I wanted to share. It's called Rawhide and it's J/E, NC-17 (eventually), It is an au!au in that it takes place in 1867 and finds our two boys working on a ranch and getting ready for a cattle drive from Texas to Montana. Warning: Jack is not quite 16 and Ennis is only 18 in this story so if their ages bothers you this may not be something you'll enjoy.

This is the first fanfic in this fandom that I've attempted so I hope it won't disappoint. I have posted this at wrangler and bbmslash also but only just posted it on my own lj tonight.

The link for is http://petitemiel.livejournal.com/

Anyway I hope you like.  :)

Hi PetiteMiel  - love that name, btw  :)

Thanks for letting us know about your fic - I started reading and I'm really enjoying it.  The characters are well drawn and the entire story has a very authentic feeling.  I'm looking forward to more.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad that you're enjoying the story. I've finished the next chapter but I always end up tinkering with them a bit before I'm truly satisfied so I should be posting the next chapter in a day or so.

Thanks again for the feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know what you thought. :)

Thanks for the news Bud!

I just finished reading your new chapter.  And, I'll say again, that I think your writing is really strong!  You seem very knowledgeable about ranching and the cowboy lifestyle.  I like that this story is set in the 19th century... very interesting spin.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm glad you like the story and the writing.  I'm trying to make the story as authentic as I can. Researching the subject has helped and is making it more fun for me at the same time. I'm learning a lot about cowboys, ranch life and cows quite frankly. LOL I'm glad to see that the effort has not been wasted. Thanks for the feedback and for giving the story a chance.

Hey, Petite,

I finished Chapter 6 and am enjoying it more and more . . . as I've been reading I wondered if you had actual ranch experience, but I see that you've been researching - and what a great job you've done of blending your research into the story.    This is a good old-fashioned western (which I love) with Jack and Ennis (also love) - a winning combination for sure, and a very natural one.

Thanks,
Marie

**warning, spoiler**

I really liked this chapter Bud!  I thought it was very sweet, and again, very well written and authentic feeling.  I loved the detail of the gift left on Jack's pillow!  It's an interesting and amazingly affectionate gesture given how conflicted Ennis is about his feelings at this stage.  Can't wait for more!

Well said, Amanda!   I'm enjoying everything about this story - it is full of small, but wonderful, meaningful details.   Jack teaching Ennis to read is such a sweet touch - it's giving them this sort of "safe" intimacy that's allowing Ennis to open up.  And the "maggitatized" discussion among the ranch hands was so funny and real - one of those little moments that add so much to a story.

Hi PetiteMiel!

I happened to see you on line earlier when you posted your new chapter earlier this evening.  You may have realized that we were having some technical issues.  And, as part of rebooting the forum, it seems that some very recent posts might have gotten lost (at least for now).  So,  I thought I'd do you a favor and repost your link!

Can't wait to read it!

Hey, I didn't realize when I posted the update that the server was going to be down or that the post might be lost. That's what I get for having my mind on Jack and Ennis and not the big red message you guys left at the top of the page. LOL  But can you blame me? Thanks for reposting the link. I hope you like the next chapter.

That's what I get for having my mind on Jack and Ennis and not ...

That's exactly where it should be   :).

Welcome to BetterMost, lil' hon  :D. I also discovered your story a bit later and read the first five chapters in one go. I'm enjoying it immensly, in particular the feel of authenticity.
But now you gotta get back to writing. You can't leave 'em like you did (chap 8 ) for long. You need to fix this asap  ;).

Just finished reading and commenting on Chapter 9.

I could go on and on - but I'll just say that this is a "must-read" imo, that never hits a false note.  If you're not reading it - you should be!   :)

Petite just posted a notice on Brokebackslash that she has had computer woes - and, sadly, she is having to start her latest chapter over from scratch because it wasn't yet backed up!  She hopes to start working on the chapter on Saturday.

Poor thing!  :(

I don't know what to think,Chrissi.  I see that it was June 21 when she posted the message about computer problems.  I checked her LJ and there's nothing recent there, but I did notice that there were some fairly recent comments to her last chapter in which readers were asking if she would be continuing (August 10 the latest), but no replies.    :-\
