Yes, I'm sure something will eventually come to light from Jake.  It's almost inevitable.

I hope he makes the gesture that feels right to him in his heart in the most genuine way.  Jake seems like such a warm person, I really tend to believe the reports that he's probably taking this very hard.  I mean, if we're taking it hard... he must certainly be.

I'm sure, on the other hand, in terms of Hollywood "image", he's probably quite aware that this long absence/silence is becoming it's own issue and won't want to come across as abrupt or dismissive of this major, major situation.

See... I'm still trying to talk myself into some kind of acceptance or understanding of what's going on.

someone earlier in one of the Jake threads posted a shooting schedule that had locations listed for this past week and then the wrap which I believe is about now.  I do not have the link now but I did click on it a couple of days ago so it is... somewhere around here.  The site was the City of Los Alamos and it listed locations where filming was happening for the last several days.

I believe they were very close friends, even after filming BBM and I believe that Jake is having a difficult time coming to terms with the loss of his close friend.  Why else would he not have anything to say about it?  Actors who I never even realized knew Heath have made statements of some sort.  The reports that Jake didn't go to the funeral are particularly thought provoking.

No offense intended, but I think the importance of Jake being Matilda's godfather is being overestimated.

In my lifetime (so far) I have been actively involved in two different Christian churches, where people stand as godparents to children who are being baptized. In such circumstances--a church--you might think the role of godparent would really be important (along with the parents, the godparents make certain promises about the child's upbringing as part of the baptismal liturgy), but even there, nowadays, when you get right down to it, the role is almost entirely honorary and ceremonial--it's something the parents do for friends as an honor and the people so named may have little practical role in the life of the child--despite the promises made at the child's baptism.

In centuries past, when it wasn't at all unusual for a child to lose one or both parents before reaching adulthood, a godparent--especially a godfather--might play a very important role. Since married women had no legal existence separate from their husbands in Anglo-American law until the nineteenth century, a godfather might well become the guardian of a child whose father had died--and that child was termed an orphan, even though its mother might still be living because the mother had no legal existence. The the godfather, as guardian, might have the responsibility for seeing that a child's inheritance was preserved and not squandered until the child came to adulthood.

But today, I would not put much stock in Jake's role as Matilda's godfather. I'd be happy to be proved wrong, of course.  :)

I think you're right that it's hard to say exactly what Jake's practical role as godfather would be nowadays... or more specifically in his particular case regarding Matilda.

But, it's still one of the clearest indicators that Jake is/was important enough to Michelle and Heath to choose him for that role.  Since we don't know a lot about Jake and Heath's casual interactions following Brokeback and the promotions for Brokeback... this godfather role for Jake is the main indicator we have that there was something more significant to their relationship than just professional.  I mean I'm friendly with some folks at work, but this doesn't mean that I'd ask them to be a godparent to my child (if I was religious and if I had a child).  Since I don't have siblings, I would choose my best friends and it probably wouldn't be a casual decision.  I mean, this was a decision that Michelle and Heath made about their child and it's hard to imagine that being taken too lightly.

There's something significant in that gesture of bestowing/accepting that role alone regardless of the practical implications of that role as Matilda grows up.  I mean, I can't imagine this hasn't been on Jake's mind at least a bit these last few weeks.  By accepting the offer to become Matilda's godfather, Jake made a commitment to her on some level (and a commitment, one would think to his friendship with Michelle and Heath at the same time) since no matter what, Jake will always be Matilda's godfather.

p.s. I hasten to add that I myself don't have godparents (I've never been baptized).  But, I have friends who are parents and have gone through the decision to ask people to be godparents to their kids and it's a pretty important moment for them in most cases that I've observed.

That was me. Here it is:

According to the info he came back onset after a couple of days and  filmed a scene, and the filming has been ongoing this past week. Filming in Los Alamos wraps today, as a matter of fact; - here's a link that gives more details: http://www.losalamosnm.us/index.asp?Type=B_PR&SEC={E2383F39-DD36-4B5A-989C-3D677CC73A43}&DE={F878B67B-D2CE-4042-B5BA-B225D8215274}

The Godparent thing has next to no practical consequence in Norway. If people do baptize their kids, as a number of people are still wont to do if they belong to the state church and their elderly genration thinks it would flout tradition not to do it, then there are several godparents. The godmother who holds the child while it is being baptized first among them. That's considered an honour for her - and the others too, but the only practical implication is that they have to remember thee kid with presents at X-mas and birthdays. They promise at the baptism to see to it that the child is brought up in the Christian belief, but that has turned into an empty phrase by now, and godparents have no part nor say in a kids' upbringing specifically because they are godparents. Not even should the child's parent / parents die. Though they may take a part if they're also close relatives of the child of course.

I'm curious about where folks are getting their reports about Jake's movie shooting schedule.  I've heard over and over again that the filming is halted.  And, then I've also heard that it's going again.  Where are the reliable sources that report on these things?

Jake's fansite wetdarkandwild.blogspot.com can confirm that last week they were shooting and on Sunday they finished. Jake was also seen on Thursday having a drink with some cast members.

"Zodiac"

I had the "Zodiac" DVD on my wish list for Christmas, but with one thing and the other I've not had time to pop it into the player before yesterday.

I did watch the film at the cinema back in the day, and was impressed - with the recreated mood and environments of the time, the strong ensemble acting, etc. But the DVD opened up my eyes AGAIN to what an amazing film this is and what a perfect act Jake delivers in it, and what a strong presence he has.

I absolutely love his geeky, shy, insecure, curious-turned-intense-turned-obsessive, driven to the point of possession cartoonist. The nervous energy, the single-minded focus that's taking the character commpletely over, the inability to "let be" - those scenes towards the end, where he visits the mysterious cinema guy in his spooky house, - eep! the first date with his second wife,- LOL! The scene where he talks it all through with Mark Ruffalo's character etc. All so great, yet also subtle, underplayed, - the haunted eyes, the near-desperation!

It's fantastic! And so is the entire film. I was forcefully reminded why Zodiac kept popping up in "Best of the year" lists even when it didn't get much, awardwise. And Jake is amazing in it.

This link has a single sentence item on Jake being spotted with friends at a Rufus Wainwright concert - no other details.

It finally snowed in Pittsburgh yesterday and today!  Yeehaw!  We've mostly only had rain and cold for the last several months.

So, in my internet image ramblings, I came across this and it made me smile. :)
