Hiya BetterMost friends.
I hope that everyone had a great weekend!
I spent some time in NYC on Saturday, and was struck by the amount of people dressed like Santa, and elves, and various other Christmas characters and fashions. I asked one of the Santas what was up, and they said it was "Santa Con".
A quick Google Search when I got home revealed this:
SantaCon is a mass gathering of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes parading publicly on streets and in bars in cities around the world. The focus is on spontaneity and creativity, while having a good time and spreading cheer and goodwill.
Sometimes known as Naughty Santas, Cheapsuit Santas, Santarchy, Santapalooza, and Santa Rampage, SantaCon incorporates elements of a flash mob in the context of cheerful bawdy and harmless behavior, the singing of naughty Christmas carols, and the giving of small gifts to strangers. Here is the Santa Con pic taken last year in Central Park.
I found an official website and it says this on it:
Santacon is a non-denominational, non-commercial, non-political and non-sensical Santa Claus convention that occurs once a year for absolutely no reason.
Spread XXXmas Cheer
Organize a reindeer game, toot a horn, hand out decorative homemade pornaments or offer your new friends a nip of your nog. Santa gives gifts, so bring something to share! Ambitious Santas in the past have organized entire marching bands, brought mobile stripper poles and portable karaoke and gotten Santas britches in a twist with a giant Twister game. Dont just go to the bar. RAISE the bar.
Leave Milk and Cookies
Santa gives back by donating to needy kids and families. Please bring at least two non-perishable items, and patronize the bars that have chosen to donate a portion of their Santacon proceeds to Toys for Tots.
Food will be collected at the start point by elves in leather thongs and delivered to the Food Bank for NYC.
Their site already has a clock counting down to the SantaCon for 2012.
http://nycsantacon.com/I think it would be HYSTERICAL to have a Brokie meeting in NYC during Santa Con and take part.
I'm already working on an outfit. I want to be a to be a "Santa Cowboy". I found a cowboy santa hat on ebay and I've already purchased it.
I plan on searching for a red denim jacket, and a pair of red jeans. I wear them with my cowboy boots and belt with Brokeback belt buckle. Should be a hoot!
Today's destination: The Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand
More tha 100 Eastern/Western buildings and courtyards make up the Grand Palace, which was created two centuries ago by the Chakri dynasty of the Kingdom of Siam. Five million tourists now visit each year, and the current king has moved to a smaller, quieter residence.
