And dont forget Chucky, you can also put lots of fruit in your salads....mango, pineapple, grapes, apple, nuts, sultanas....they sweeten it up and give you something to chew on......

Hi Chuck! I had to go without salads or any raw food when I was in Nepal so when I returned to the US I got a major salad craving. Europeans don't do salad very well, except for the Italians and the Southern French. In Britain you can order your salad "dressed" or "undressed". A salad with meat in it (except for tuna maybe) is nearly unknown in Europe. If there's one thing America knows how to do, it's salad!

Lately I'm eating a lot of holiday leftovers. The leftover turkey went into enchiladas and I stuffed a nice butternut squash with...stuffing! Gave away most of the sweets to my son, who now lives with six other bicyclists in a house near the campus, so I always have a place to get rid of foods that aren't good for me!

I am always a bit perplexed when a salad arrives with meat. It is supposeto be a side to the meat dish or in Germany/Austria I find it is delivered and eaten while waiting for the meat dish. To each our own  ;D
I was amused an hour ago when booking a hotel in Hong Kong to see someone gave as a plus that it was opposite Starbucks. I consider Starbucks serves the worst coffee on the planet and would never enter the door. The chain almost closed down in Australia, the only ones still open are in the overseas tourist areas.

Good morning Bettermost Friends!

Yup, the holidays are over!  Back to full work weeks and the usual routine.

Next holiday is Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, celebrated on Jan. 21st, but really Jan. 15th, which is also my birthday.  Dad's bday is the day before (14th) so I think there will be some sort of party the weekend before.

Hiya Lee!  The sweets are what do me in, and they're everywhere at this time of year.  Whenever I'm given some sort of treat, I end up taking it to work and pushing it off on them.  LOL  It's usually gone by the end of the day, and it fits in with my diet plan.  You can make yourself look thinner, by making those around you look fatter.

Hiya Brian, it's always fun to see how other areas do things differently.  In America, salads like you describe are usually seen at a formal meal with multiple courses.  For example, a wedding reception may have a pasta dish as the opening course, followed by a salad with no meat, and then the main course, usually a choice between a meat, chicken or fish plate.  However, many places will serve a large salad as a meal, with chicken, steak or fish mixed into the salad.

As for Starbucks, I know a few people here who can't stand their coffee, but the vast majority seems to love it.

Bad boy?  ???  I know not of what you speak!  I'm innocent!  An angel!  *buffs halo*

I'm shocked you could even think such a thing!
