[Penthesilea]

This weekend our village has its annual country fair. Country fair is the translation my dictionary gave me, but I think it's a bit exaggerated . Every small village has its own small fair, and this weekend is ours. Bi-annual we have a horse and carriage parade. So many beautiful horses!

Some impressions:

This is Otto. He always leads the parade.

And of course, since we are the onion village, we have an onion horse

I love horses






My son also loves horses . He brought his Pegasus, so he can see all his equine comrades



That's my best picture (I think). The coachman waited intil there was a bit of space between his carriage and the one in front, then he let the horses trot, not walk. Jeez! it's only six horsepowers, but they're impressive! And those Frisians are beautiful.

I love the Onion Horse.  But how old is your village?  Surely Otto hasn't been leading the parade for centuries!

Our village is at least 1234 years old. The oldest mention in an official record dates from 774.


Poor Otto is old, but not *that* old . The tradition of the horse+carriage parade is not very old, maybe ten years (the first years they did it annual).
The fair is an old tradition of the village (of every village around here), but it was very much on the decline some years ago. People didn't want their traditions to get lost and decided to do something to make the fair a community event again. The parade is one part of it.
And their efforts paid off, and very much so. Today the fair is again an important and attractive event for our communitiy.
