--- Quote from: brokeplex on February 26, 2008, 12:44:07 am ---This Texas boy has visited the UK many times since the early 1970's and as recently as 2006. I have always found the UK hospitable, with interesting places to visit, and friendly helpful people. I have visited London and the South, the Midlands and the North, Scotland, and Ulster to find some long lost kinfolk. Always the Brits go out of their way to be helpful and seem to love my country US southern accent. I look forward to returning again.

I agree a great pace to visit, but different living there. But I have discovered that about Sarasota, they too love my English accrnt!!!and the people are very friendly.
However when you live somewhere ,you realise that no place is perfect. It is just that some places can be better for you at diffrent phaes in your life.
My latter experiences in England soured it for me and also the heat here was a big draw for my worsening arthritis,
I would not say it is perfect here, but it suits us all better at the moment,

I lOVE THE POSITIVITY OF THE AMERICANS.In England(living there) people have become even more negative than usual.
Also my kids have the joy of being outside here most of the time, and have such become so much fitter. They have been given opportunities they would not have had in the U.K .Most important they have a full time mom now instead of a working one which they love
I am glad your experiences of my homeland have been good,

you are certainly correct that it's a very different thing to be a vistor rather than a permanent resident. I am delighted that you are happy in the US and hope the best for you and your family. I think that I decided to post my experiences in the UK because I have heard negativity about life in the UK from both natives and American visitors before, and I have seen another side to the British.

I saw all this on Sky news this morning. I never felt a thing. Apparantly some of the aftershocks were felt as far away as South London and the West Country, but I slumbered on and neve felt nuthin. It measured about 4.8 on the richter scale apparantly.
