Does anyone know...
« on: April 12, 2006, 12:27:03 pm »
... what song is playing in Alma Jr.'s (actually Kurt's) car when she pulls up to Ennis' trailer in the final scene?  If it's on the soundtrack, I've certainly not found it.  I think it isn't because it seems to be an early 80s hair-band rock song and not in keeping with the country feel of the rest of it.

Here's my guess, and it's only just come to me because I happened to be listening to this on a CD in my car this morning and it clicked:  Triumph's "Follow Your Heart."  In the song playing in the movie, I remember a falsetto male voice and a rock back-beat, but can never place the song.  In this song, if you know it offhand, Rik Emmett does have that male falsetto and uses it in the chorus.  Here are the lyrics.  It does seem strangely fitting, no?

People say
Don't ever look behind
Happiness is just a state of mind
Rock and roll lives and breathes in the hearts of the young
So carry on
You're runnin' on borrowed time
Tryin' hard to survive
Keep on runnin'
Your time is comin'
Keep your dreams alive

CHORUS:

Follow your heart (You've got to follow your heart)
Live it for today, forget about tomorrow
Follow your heart (You've got to follow your heart)
Any other way will only lead to sorrow
Don't wait any longer
Follow your heart

Play for keeps
And try to never lose
Live it fast, but live the life you choose
Rock and roll lives and breathes in the hearts of the young
So let it ride
Each time you roll the dice
Luck will finally arrive
Keep on runnin'
Your time is comin'
Keep your dreams alive

CHORUS...

Probably way wrong, yet again.  But in any event, I know I've heard that song in Kurt's car - just can't quite place it.  I'll listen next time to see if it's this one or not, unless someone has the definitive answer in the meantime.

Wrong or right, "Follow Your Heart" is wonderfully fitting.

Isn't it?  I really think this line in particular sums up the theme of all of Ang Lee's films: "...any other way will only lead to sorrow."  He seems most keenly interested in the effects of repressing one's true self, which are in every case devastating.

Ya know, I was always wondering what song that was.....haven't found out.

Has anybody found out what song it is?

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!
