Brokeback Clerihews AND Limericks

UPDATED Fri Mar 3 2006 07:00:07

For how to write a limerick, you're on your own. Here are the simple guidelines for clerihews. Thanks to jmmgallagher who introduced this concept to me.

www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clerihew

And here are our first ones:

By Meryl_88

Jack Twist
Was no limp wrist.
He rode bulls, made maidens swoon,
Made Ennis paw white from the moon.

Meryl 88
So up to date
Writes a mean Clerihew
As few can do!

By Meryl_88

jmmgallagher
Writes posts of highest caliber.
You can tell, when he speaks of Ennis or Jack,
He was gotten good by Ol' Brokeback.

By Ellemeno

Ennis Del Mar
Hard as feldspar
Said no to Jack
Then yearned for him back.

(This last breaks one of the rules of clerihews by not being funny.)

Thanks for starting a Clerihew thread, Elle. I'll check back in tomorrow, but for now must get to bed. :)

tried to pound Jack, but he had a good dismount.

Limerick Attempt.....

by - ndatmo-1 (Fri Mar 3 2006 00:32:57 )

Our two boys had a boss named Aguirre,
Whose binoculars helped him see clearly.
He stared and he stared
At their chests which were bared.
For their pants to drop soon, he prayed dearly.

I have added the limericks option to my original post.

Here's my first attempt ever.

There was a young lady named Cassie
Whose tube top and cut-offs were sassy.
Though most thought she was hot
Ennis did not
And so he stayed pretty flassy.

Helped him get bent

Two cowpokes named Ennis and Jack
One night found themselves in the sack.
The weather was cold,
And Jack became bold,
And the next night ol' Ennis came back!

(Not that great, but not bad for five minutes' effort, if I say so myself, hunh?)

I got some more!

When Jack laid his eye on fair Ennis he
was impressed by his fine masculinity!
They talked a wee bit,
he got Ennis lit,
and gently lassoed his virginity.

For some time poor Alma'd been wishing
for passionate conjugal frission.
Too long without it,
she finally shouted,
"I knew all along you weren't fishing!"

Scared to post after such good stuff, but here goes:

Way up on that high Brokeback Mountain,
J and E did some fine layaboutin'.
At the end of it all,
they'd had quite the ball!
But far fewer sheep for the countin'.

Most cowboys high up on a mountain
would say "I'm no queer, I'm not outin'!"
But Jack's big baby blues
in the tent, were no snooze
and Big Ennis made like a fountain.

Ennis's teeth were a-chattering
and Jack said, "Get in, quit your hammering!
Above shines the moon,
and with sweet spooning, soon
my Y chromosome won't be mattering!"

More? You got it. (S.O.'s working tonight so I'm home, and on a roll!)

Two lonesome cowboys really clicked
like proverbial thieves, getting thick!
With virile exuberance
each sprang a protuberance
the booze and cold couldn't constrict!

An Oscar our Brokeback should win
despite homophobic chagrin!
Good for you, Annie Proulx.
(And the soundtrack should do
even better than Ropin' the Wind!)

Repeat the work? Jack didn't get to.
For some sheep were not found in situ.
Love wasn't as fleeting;
Jack found himself bleating:
" I wish I knew how to quit you!"

I couldn't find this thread so I started another. Here it all is.

Limericks have the rhymescheme AABBA, and the metre
^/^^/^^/^
[^]^/^^/^^/^
^/^^/
[^]^/^^/
^/^^/^^/^
(Spondeic trimeter?)
They should be funny, and difficult rhymes are a plus.
So let's see (I really am making this up as I go)...

The loving between Jack and Ennis
seemed to some like a new Phantom Mennis:
"Though I'm not homophobic,
I know what parts grow big
with a passion that's far too intennis."

----------------------------------------------------------
TheSoupNazi replied:

Two five dollar bills, saving up for a place.
No time for this teasing -- "give my shirt back" -- they chase.
They neglect the flocks
And never wear socks.
And expect a tire-iron whack to the face.

So we can carry on here and let that one die.
