Scotch Egg Variant
« on: October 12, 2008, 11:46:14 am »
I don't know why I have so much energy today 8-)

My Scotch Egg variant is done.  This time I wrapped shaved ham around the hard boiled eggs and covered them with a crescent roll dough. I found the crescent roll dough recipe here: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Golden-Crescent-Rolls/Detail.aspx They came out real good  ;)

Here's another variant I made this morning.

This time I made Scotch Eggs using "lower fat" Jimmy Dean sausage and cover them in a biscuit dough. I used this biscuit dough recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cheddar-Thyme-Flaky-Biscuits/Detail.aspx

They are outstanding!  ;D

...

This is looking really good to me right now.

My grandmother used to make scotch eggs often (her version of it anyway) when I was growing up.
She used to wrap the hard boiled egg in a coat of seasoned (mashed) salmon & herbs before rolling the coated egg in beaten egg yolk mixture and then in bread crumbs before shallow-frying it in vegetable oil.
Very tasty.  :)
