Thank you Chuck and Paul! Both of you are sweethearts! :-*

I received some bad news today. My Dad told me my Uncle Jack has been diagnosed with leukemia, the same disease which killed my Mom. Uncle Jack is on Dad's side of the family. actually his cousin which makes him my second cousin. But he is Dad's age, so we always called him "uncle Jack" out of respect for his age.

Anyway, Dad is frantically trying to get him enrolled in the VA, as his new medications will cost him roughly $3000 per month, give or take a thousand. :-\

It seems Charlotte, NC does not have a VA hospital, which surprises me since Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the Southeast. He will have to drive 50 miles to the nearest VA hospital (I forget which city it is). So what a kick in the ass, huh? After today's joyful news of Barack Obama's victory, I find out my uncle Jack is suffering and will probably die from blood cancer.

C'est la vie! :-\

I'm sorry you had to hear that bad news.  I'll keep your uncle Jack in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry David!
We have one in Atlanta!
He may be going to Raliegh though.
If he has to come here let me know and I'll help him any way I can.

Thanks everyone!

And thanks Richard for your offer. His wife is still alive and he has several of his kids living nearby. I'm sure they will pitch in and help as well. Dad told me the name of the town he will have to travel to, but I know North Carolina pretty well - I've been there dozens of times - and the name of the town didn't ring a bell with me. I've never heard of it, although it's possible he told it to me wrong. Dad's memory isn't the best anymore and he forgets sometimes. Anyway, it's weird they don't have a VA hospital in Charlotte. We have one here. A HUGE one. It's a full hospital, doctors offices, labs, a big pharmacy, and all kinds of things. I don't understand why Charlotte wouldn't at least have something there. I think Charlotte is even bigger than Indianapolis.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words everyone! I appreciate it and it helps alot. This is very upsetting because I am quite close to him and his family. Lots of fun trips together as I was growing up and lots of good memories. I hate to think of him getting sick like this. I remember what Mom went through, what the disease did to her. She whittled away to nearly nothing before she died. She suffered terribly.  :'(  :'(
