Lansing takes a shine to ‘Brokeback’ (Lansing City Pulse)
« on: February 10, 2006, 03:42:20 am »
An interesting reaction to the film in Lansing, Michigan where callers to movie theaters demanded they show Brokeback Mountain, assuming it had been censored.

Celebration!’s Van Timmeren said the most adverse public outcry came before the film opened in Lansing, when the theater received “50 to 100 phone calls and e-mails a day demanding the film be shown — “most of them female, which I think is interesting.

“At first people thought we, the theater owners, were engaging in censorship,  Van Timmeren said, “but the distributor simply hadn’t made it available to markets the size of Lansing. There was nothing we could do but call them up every week and say, ‘Please let us have the movie.’
