I'm imagining that this is the background music right now in the Dupree/Sampson household - there have been several versions of this song - but because the subject hat is a Resistol - I believe the country/western version is most appropriate!   :)

You Can Leave Your Hat On

Baby take off your coat
Real slow
Take off your shoes
I'll take off your shoes
Baby take off your coat
Yes, yes, yes

You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on

Go over there
Turn on the light
All the lights
Come over here
Stand on that chair
Yeah, that's right
Raise your arms in the air
Now shake 'em

You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live

You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on

Suspicious minds keep talkin
They try to tear us apart
They don't believe in this love of ours
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
But I know what love is

You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on...

MaineWriter:
We got talking about "You Can Leave Your Hat On" yesterday in chat (when Louise posted the chapter). Naturally, I had to do a little bit of research...

It was written in 1972 by Randy Newman, and recorded that same year on the album Sail Away. It has been covered by a number of people including Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, Ty Herndon, TK Kellman, Etta James, and BC & The Blues Crew.

People seem to most associate the song with Joe Cocker. Here's a Youtube video of him:

Now what I need someone to confirm, if they can...is the sax player "Blue Lou" Martini? Blue Lou was the sax player in The Blues Brothers. He also in the Saturday Night Live band (which is how he ended up in the Blues Brothers). This little tidbit makes me think that it must be Blue Lou:

In 1975, Lou "Blue Lou" Martini and Alan "Mr. Fabulous" Rubin became part of the horn section for the TV comedy show "Saturday Night Live." John Belushi, an actor in the show, loved hearing the horn section for "SNL" play with such artists as Joe Cocker, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Cliff, The Band, Dr, John, and Chuck Berry. Belushi Chose Lou and Alan to be the Blues Brothers horns.

Thanks for the link, Leslie!  Ty Herndon's country version is the one I had in mind for Nick's hat - but, yep, I think Joe Cocker's version suits the song best!

I have to find time to jump over to chat - sounds like I'm missing a lot of great discussions!   :)

I guess I should post the update!
