--- End quote ---

Oh, Louise, how appropriate to read this just after I had my breakfast  :)

SPOILER

“Point is...” Ennis frowned, then gathered himself. “Point is, I been thinkin about how guilty I’d be about takin somethin for myself, livin with you, bein happy for once. The real point is, you an me bein together is a damn sight bettern when Bill ran a porn video ring out a the bar an Wayne was hittin on every boy comin the door. Now... it must seem like – well kinda like a family.”

“Goddamn, boy,” Ellery said, his eyes darkening with emotion. “That is some kind a breakfast conversation.”

“Maybe... we ought ta just let anybody come who wants ta,” Ennis said. “Cause it ain’t about me an you – we’re their family.”

This is just beautiful Louise. Very moving.
Thank you.

Yeah - Fabienne said it - beautiful and moving.  We were talking about Ellery and his grandfather not so long ago during the re-read.  Really nice to hear him open up to Ennis even though it is painful for him.

And after all the talk about a "small circle of friends" - how wonderful to see wise, thoughtful Ennis talking about "one big trying-to-be-happy family."

Couldn't love that chapter more, Louise!  Thanks.

Marie

I wonder if Ennis will relent enough to let Edna bake a cake? I know he'll never cave in on the dancing, though!
