Highlights from Season One Episode One

Pilot Episode

Notice how physically agressive Marie is in these earlier episodes. Somewhere around the 10th episode of Season One, the producers of ELR sat down with Doris Roberts to discuss the character of Marie. They decided to make Marie less aggresive physically, but keep her "buttinsky" nosey, bossy and passive aggressive qualities intact.

About the same time, the producers also sat down with Brad Garrett to tweak Robert a little bit. They agreed Robert should be a little bit more pitiful. "You mean like Eeyore the Donkey from Winnie The Pooh?" asked Brad.

EXACTLY!!!

And so, a new and improved Marie and Robert were born, sometime during the middle of Season One.

Wow! I think I have too many videos posted in here because it now takes me about 10 minutes to open up this thread!

Oh well, I'll just suffer through it because I'm planning to post even more ELR videos if I can find them!  :D

Did you notice all the differences in the Pilot episode? The living room is totally different; different furniture, different curtains, and even a different front door! Ray and Debra's master bedroom as also quite different in the pilot. The bed and dresser are different and there are no visible dormer windows. The kitchen has a different stove too.

This was because the budget was so tight for the pilot episode they had to borrow items from other sets, including Frank and Marie's kitchen which is actually the kitchen from the old All In The Family set. They only had use of one camera in the Pilot episode and they completely forgot to create an Intro for the opening show. The Intro was filmed in Ray's own backyard just several days before the Pilot aired on television. They filmed the entire intro in one day, and then quickly changed it for Episode two.

The twins are different too! Not only are the twins different but so are the names! In the Pilot, the twin's names are Matthew and Gregory. They decided to use Madylin Sweeten's real twin brothers, Sawyer and Sullivan staring in episode two, and changed the names to Michael and Geoffrey.

It was a rough start for Everybody Loves Raymond, but it sure did turn out good, didn't it?  :D

Lord have mercy, I could clean my entire house in the time it takes to open up this thread!  :P

Kelda, I think you are talking about "Robert's Rodeo" from Season 4.

Robert: "He got me in my.....umm....... upper thigh area...."

Ray: "It sounds like he got you in the ass!"

I think one of the funniest lines in Everybody Loves Raymond is from Season Three's "Big Shots". Ray doesn't want Robert riding in the car with him up to Cooperstown to meet the Mets because Ray thinks Robert's feet stink. Things don't really work out in Cooperstown and Robert never gets to meet the Mets, so they begin arguing with each other on the way home. Eventually Robert reclines his car seat, takes his shoes off and places his feet up on the dashboard of Ray's car. Ray is driving and he tries to ignore it at first, but finally he can't take it any longer, and says "We must have...(shakes his head in disbelief)... we must have hit a skunk that crawled out of the ass of another skunk."

Here's some highlights from "Father Knows Least" Season Two, Episode Two

(about 3,5 minutes)

Ray and Debra attend an "Active Listening" class after having problems disciplining Ally. But Ally isn't the only one Ray uses his newly learned techniques on!

Here's a little known fact about Everybody Loves Raymond.

Did ya'll know that Ray Romano hated the title of this show. In fact he still does hate it even to this day. He was afraid the title "Everybody Loves Raymond" would send out the wrong message to the public, and they would incorrectly interpret it to mean "Everybody Loves Raymond Romano".

Ray spent weeks trying to convince the higher powers to consider a different name for the show. He jotted all kinds of different titles down on pieces of paper and brought the list to the studio with him several times a week. These lists were filled with names like "Ray's House", "The Barone Family", "Just Across The Street"....all kinds of different things, but in the end the producers insisted the show should be named "Everybody Loves Raymond".

Ray still has those pieces of paper too!  :D
