I know what you mean, Jack.  I was a philosophy student, and most of my writing in college had to be cold and unfeeling.  If you showed any emotion or used wit you got points off, because doing that was seen as an attempt to appeal to something other than the intellect, and that was thought of as cheating.  I hated writing that way.  It never felt right to me.

I would imagine that you were supposed to be cold and unfeeling when writing papers for a computer class, too.  

I like the humor that you put in your writing now!

In college I was in Journalism where you are taught to take out anything descriptive and that hurt my writing. Also in poems you had to follow this thing called iambic petameter or something like that, that hurt me there.
