Well this one didn't go as well as I had hoped. I wanted to include another storyline besides Luke and Noah, but kept finding myself drawn back to those two.

SCENE: THE SNYDER FARMHOUSE PORCH IS STILL LIT BY CANDLES.
NOAH IS HOLDING LUKE AGAINST HIM IN A COMFORTING MANNER.
NOAH:
Luke.... I swear, my father's not going to do this to us.
LUKE:
How can you be so sure?
Look at all he's done already,
from prison.
NOAH (DETERMINED AND ANGRY):
I won't let him.
LUKE:
Oh Noah, whatever's in store for us...
I don't think you have much control over it.
We'll just have to face it when it comes.
NOAH (UNBELIEVING):
You want me to face it with you?
Luke, if it weren't for me, none
of this would have ever happened.
LUKE:
Noah, of course I want you
to face it with me.
It looks like whatever's coming
is going to affect you more than
me anyway.
He is your father, afterall.
NOAH:
The only one I knew,
but wish I never did.
LUKE LEANS BACK AND LOOKS UP INTO NOAH'S EYES:
Noah....
OFFICER TRENTON ENTERS THE PORCH, SWINGING HIS
FLASHLIGHT BEHIND HIM AS HE LOOKS AROUND.
OFFICER TRENTON:
There's no one out there now.
But I can let dispatch know.
LUKE LOOKS UP:
Okay, that sounds good.
Maybe he's gone for good,...
just somebody trying to take
a shortcut home or something.
OFFICER TRENTON NODS:
That's a possibility.
I have to radio in to HQ.
I'll be back up in a minute.
A DISTANT FLASH OF LIGHTNING, QUIET THUNDER
OFFICER TRENTON TURNS AROUND AND HEADS BACK OUT.
LUKE:
It looks like the storm's moving on...
NOAH:
Who knows how long until the
power comes back on...
LUKE NESTLES HIS HEAD ON NOAH'S SHOULDER.
LUKE:
It can't be too long.
LUKE SUDDENLY JERKS HIS HEAD UP.
LUKE:
Noah, what if Dad and Grandma and the girls
had to go to the hospital. One of them's hurt?
NOAH:
Well, they should have left a note, or
something if they did that.... don't you think?
LUKE:
Not if it was really serious.
NOAH:
Okay... we'll try to find out
when Officer Trenton comes back...

Lily, will you sit down?
You've been pacing for hours.
I'm sure Margo will call you
as soon as she knows something.
LILY:
Mother, I can't take this anymore.
I have to go see if they're alright.
LUCINDA:
Wait til tomorrow, Lily.
The roads are all icy now.
It's dangerous going out in the dark.
LILY:
Oh mother!
Why do you always have to be so right?
LUCINDA:
I'm your mother, dear.
It's what I'm good at.
LILY PICKS UP THE PHONE AND DIALS.

Margo,
we've lost Trenton.
MARGO LOOKS UP WORRIED:
I'll have to call you back, Lily.
Hold on.
MARGO HANGS UP THE PHONE:
What do you mean,
we've lost Trenton?
POLICE CAPTAIN:
He just radioed dispatch,
but they can't get a hold of him now.
MARGO HAS A DETERMINED LOOK ON HER FACE.
MARGO:
Get Captain Snyder and tell him to take someone with him up
to the Snyder place. I think something might be going

SCENE: THE SNYDER FARMHOUSE PORCH
LUKE AND NOAH ARE STILL SITTING TOGETHER.
LUKE SHIVERS A LITTLE:
Don't you get cold, Noah?
NOAH:
Yeah... just not when you're around.
LUKE:
It just feels so.... dead.
Being cold, I mean.
The part where you go numb
especially.
NOAH NODS, CONCERNED:
Are you too cold.
LUKE:
No, I'll be alright.
It just feels that way again tonight.
It's just so dead and dark out there....
and we're separate from the rest of the world.
No phones, nobody else here.
I don't know what's going on, but Noah...
LUKE LOOKS UP INTO NOAH'S EYES.
LUKE (CONT'D):
It's really, really scaring me.
NOAH:
I can see that, Luke...
We just have to keep a cool head though.
How many dangerous things have happened to you here?
LUKE SHAKES HIS HEAD:
Not many, really.... I mean.
It's been pretty safe overall.
NOAH:
It'll stay that way then.
There's nothing here that will hurt you.
LUKE:
That guy that I saw out there.
He... I thought he wanted to kill me.
NOAH SHRUGS:
Why? Luke, what have you done to anyone
that would make them want to kill you?
LUKE:
I know. You're right.
It's just... what I felt.
I can't explain why.
I would feel a lot better if my dad and mom were here.
NOAH BRUSHES HIS HAND THROUGH LUKE'S HAIR
IN A REASSURING GESTURE. HE PUTS BOTH HIS ARMS AROUND HIM.
NOAH:
Can I do for now?
LUKE NODS, SADLY
AND LEANS AGAINST NOAH AGAIN.
LUKE, DROWSILY:
Shouldn't Officer Trenton be back by now?
NOAH LOOKS AT HIS WATCH:
It's been a while, yes.
Maybe he's getting some info for us.
LUKE:
What type of info?
NOAH SHRUGS:
Maybe something about your family?
LUKE:
I hope so, Noah.
I mean they're really good to me.
I don't know what I would do if
I didn't have them.
NOAH:
I'll be here for you
as long as I'm able.
LUKE:
I know, Noah.

A SECOND POLICE CAR DRIVES UP THE DRIVEWAY
AND PARKS BEHIND IT. JACK SNYDER AND OFFICER HAMESWORTH
GET OUT. THEY ARE BOTH EQUIPPED WITH PERSONAL
RADIOS.
JACK SNYDER PULLS OUT HIS RADIO:
Dispatch, this is Captain Snyder.
We've found Trenton's car. No sign
of Trenton though.
THE RADIO:
Understood. What's the situation?
JACK WALKS UP TO THE CAR SLOWLY,
HAND TO HIS GUN, THE OTHER HAND
HOLDING A FLASHLIGHT. HE LOOKS AROUND CAREFULLY.
OFFICER HAMESWORTH APPROACHES THE CAR FROM THE OTHER
SIDE, WATCHING THE FOREST NEARBY.
JACK KNEELS DOWN TO THE GROUND,
EXAMINES THE AREA BY THE DOOR TO TRENTON'S CAR.
JACK:
Dispatch, we have signs of a struggle here.
OFFICER HAMESWORTH LOOKS UP:
A struggle?
JACK POINTS AT THE GROUND.
Something big was rolling around in the mud there,
or fell in it, or something.
OFFICER HAMESWORTH:
Trenton?
JACK SHRUGS:
Could be.
Let's check the house.
Luke and Noah should
be here somewhere.

SCENE: THE SNYDER FARMHOUSE PORCH. LUKE
AND NOAH ARE STILL SITTING TOGETHER, LUKE
FOCUSING ON SOME INTERNAL BATTLE AND NOAH
COMFORTING HIM THE BEST HE CAN.
JACK AND HAMESWORTH ENTER.
NOAH LOOKS UP:
What happened to Officer Trenton?
JACK AND HAMESWORTH LOOK AT
EACH OTHER.
JACK:
That's what we want to know.
LUKE:
He said he was going out
to radio headquarters.
JACK:
Oh... and you haven't seen him since?
NOAH SHAKES HIS HEAD:
No, something happen to him?
OFFICER HAMESWORTH:
I'm sure he wanted to patrol the area again.
LUKE NODS:
Maybe he was able to help that other guy I saw.
JACK:
What other guy?
NOAH:
There was someone here in the yard during the worse
part of the storm. Luke went out to see who it was.
And it turned out to be someone he didn't know.
JACK AND HAMESWORTH LOOK AT EACH OTHER AGAIN.
LUKE:
I guess he was just trying to take a shortcut home.
A neighbor or something.
JACK:
Luke, there are no neighbors for miles around.
LUKE:
I know... but its what made sense to me at the time.
JACK SHAKES HIS HEAD:
Where's Dad and Grandma?
LUKE:
I don't know... they weren't here
when we got home.
JACK:
Really? That's not like dad at all.
LUKE:
Well, you're free to look yourself.
Electricity's out, Phone's out.
I guess we can be grateful we still
have running water.
NOAH:
Officer Trenton looked around too.
JACK NODS AND PICKS UP HIS RADIO:
Dispatch, Trenton is nowhere in sight.
Mayer and Luke are safe enough for now
if Lily calls again.
JACK (CONT'D):
Oh and one more thing.
Luke saw a prowler up here.
That's not something I would tell Lily though.
