Thanks, george, but I can't get some of your links to work (including the one to Heath) and the last one needs a password.

However, the ones that work are great. The Gay Mafia story is a riot in waiting and the author is only 19. Pantyhose reference to Jake is somewhat silly. Adam Sutton's "chill-out" project in schools for gay kids is heartwarming, wants to prevent bullying.

Hi Watergarden!

I fixed the Heath link.

Pantyhose reference to Joe Namath refers to a TV commercial Joe Namath did wearing the product - many people who remember Joe Namath remember that commercial.

I'm not needing a password for the other story (maybe I already have one?).

Thanks for fixing the Heath link; great interview. I am also glad to see Jake is going to be Broadway Joe. It is great to see that our boys are getting lots of film work and that Brokeback did not ruin their careers.

I also think that should be a fun project for him! Joe Namath was quite a character! I'm sure Jake's portrayal of Joe will showcase a very different kind of performance. If the film does well, Hollywood might even give him another award, since AMPAS members seem to really go for actors imitating celebrities in biopics.

It is great to see that our boys are getting lots of film work and that Brokeback did not ruin their careers.

I always thought the talk about Brokeback ruining their careers was just silly. Lot's of performers play gay parts early in their careers, and many times it is precisely those parts that garnered them attention to begin with - Damon, Dicaprio, Crowe, McGregor all played gay parts early in their careers. Jake and Heath are now both able to pick and choose roles. They both have a lot to thank Brokeback for -- Brokeback transformed both of them from male ingenues to leading men.

Furthermore, the failure of the academy to recognize BbM as best picture has only seriously harmed both its own credibility and relevance, and completely undermined the mediocre picture that was chosen in its place. It hasn't hurt Brokeback one bit - in fact it has become one of the most honored films in the history of cinema.

Whether the public knows it from seeing it, or knows it by its parodies, the story is now woven into the social fabric... There are hundreds of Youtube fond parodies and tributes to this film, and it's ending was even referenced in an episode of "The Simpsons." EW listed it in a recent article on movies with perfect endings. Two years after the fact, Brokeback has become completely assimilated into pop culture.

The more I think about Jake Gyllenhaal playing Joe Namath the better I like it. Jake will be perfect; he can play a charismatic quarterback, a ladies man, a flamboyant jock, the important aspects of Joe. I also just read that Namath himself approved the selection according to this post from the Internet:

Also, it seems the idea of Gyllenhaal's casting was suggested to the film's producers by the NFL Hall of Famer himself. Namath is a huge fan of the young actor and wanted him for the role over others being considering, including Mark Wahlberg and Josh Hartnett.

Josh Harnett would seem too tame to play Namath although he's played jocks before. Since the script probably includes Joe wearing pantyhose for an ad campaign, maybe Wahlberg felt too squeamish and withdrew. Great role for Jake if the storyline is good.
