Honestly, I always hated the red balloon song, whether in German or English. Like nails on a chalkboard to me.
"It's Raining Men": now there's a song! The club I used to go to in the 80s was called "Buddies", and they always played this song at 10:30PM. Anyone who knows the song would know why!

Does "luftballon" really mean "red balloon" in German? Because red is "rood" in Dutch, and "lucht" is air. A "balloon" is "luchtballon" in Dutch and that looks very similar to "luftballon" in German.
