The verb belonging to Schnüffler is "schnüffeln", which is both, to sniffle and to snoop around. It's a colloquial word for a private detective (it can also mean a person who sniffs adhesives). And in this case it means exactly what you said: other nosey people, who behave like a private detective (snooping around in other people's private business) but aren't.

Is someone speaking German?

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

but sooooo good!

I agree 99 Luftballons is a great song. In English it means 99 Red Balloons. Strangely enough the German version of the song did very well in the United States, but the English version that was released later didn't do that well. And even stranger is that I have heard 99 Leftballons at least twice in just the past few days and it was not on an oldies station. Maybe there is a 80s revival going on since I have also heard "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell and a couple of songs by Depeche Mode.

I remember hearing that song play over and over again on the jukeboxes at the 21 Club and Talbott Street. I never did grow tired of the song. I also preferred the German version.

Remember the song "It's Raining Men"? WHOOOO!! I'd go nuts everytime they played that song! I'd grab somebody's hand (I didn't care who it was) and I'd drag them onto the dance floor with me! lol

Honestly, I always hated the red balloon song, whether in German or English.  Like nails on a chalkboard to me. :P

"It's Raining Men":  now there's a song!  The club I used to go to in the 80s was called "Buddies", and they always played this song at 10:30PM.  Anyone who knows the song would know why!

Does "luftballon" really mean "red balloon" in German? Because red is "rood" in Dutch, and "lucht" is air. A "balloon" is "luchtballon" in Dutch and that looks very similar to "luftballon" in German. :-\

Okay. I'm being nitpicky aren't I? I'll shut up now!

You are right to query it luftballon means a colo(u)red  air filled toy balloon. The translation to English was slightly distrorted to allow the words to scan with the music.Luftballon has 3 syllables as does red balloon. If it was left just as balloon the missing syllable would have thrown off the beat/tune.
Geez when did I get to be so an-l about things. I am getting old.
O.K I am of to order the incontinance pads and hearing aid now.
