Gay subjects in movies??
« on: January 05, 2008, 12:11:07 am »
Do you know of gay subjects in movies??

Two examples maybe:

To-day, I saw on TV The Seven Year Itch 1955 with Marilyn Monroe...who lives on the second floor, and the first floor gentlemen metions that there are two menwho live on the 3rd floor as interior decorators or whatever!! May I ask you is that suppose to mean that those two men living together are gay, even a gay couple??
..........

Yesterday, I dared watch on TV: Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina 1997 with Sean Bean in which the narrator mentions his brother who is a boozer whom he visits, but while he visited, that brother kisses him deeply and long; that brother is not happy with his life (married before and with children then?) but now with a whorl he says, and that 2nd lady stays with him even at his death bed!! I did not think of that that much as the story... went on! But this morning in my bed, it bothered me; that must have been so too during my sleep!! I think that that brother was gay, so refused that in himself, and so commited suicide through booze and depression!! What do you think?

..........

Any other cases in movies of gay subjects??

Hugs!! May gay freedom ring by all in the whole world!!

Hi Artiste,

I recently watched "Gods and Monsters" which was about James Whale, the man who directed "Frankenstein," "The Bride of Frankenstein" and several other movies. Whale was gay and was pretty open about it throughout his life--as open as he could be, that is, given the time he lived in. This movie takes place in 1957 but we learn about his life through flashblacks and stories he tells his gardener. It is very, very good. I highly recommend it.

After you watch it, you may want to watch "The Bride of Frankenstein" which apparently has all sorts of little hidden jokes and innuendos about homosexuality.

Thanks Mainewriter!

Even if I do not watch Frankenstein and such movies, I will certainly try to find and watch that one when it comes on TV: Gods and Monsters!! And maybe the Bride of Frankenstein too as you say for hidden jokes and jokes about homosexuality!!

Is James Whale alive to-day, and where does he live??
I do not know if I ever saw him in person!! What is his real name born under?? Any pics of him?? Maybe I did see him, since I lived many times and did many exhibitions of my paintings I created in Los Angeles!!

Awaiting your news maybe about this or other movies or stars,

hugs!! May Hollywood gay stars shine always!!

James Whale is his real name.

He was born in England in 1889 and served in WW I, coming to Hollywood in the 1920s. He died in 1957. He was found drowned in his swimming pool. The exact reason for his death (suicide) was not known until 1987 when his lover died and his suicide note was found among his papers.

Not only was that supposed to be a gay couple, but Tom Ewell (the man who played Richard Sherman, who lusts after MM) was also gay!

In "Clone: the life and legacy of Al Parker, Gay Superstar", there is mention of Al Parker being set up with his first job as an escort to service a very aged Tom Ewell.  It apparently didn't go so well...

James Whale, I do not think that I met him then. Maybe my Hollywood friends would have!!

However, I would question if his death was suicide!! Is such a note still exist? Many, too many actors who were gay men have unknown deaths... even if it was murder!! Remember official papers on Marilyn Monroe disappeared at the coroner's office?

What was the name of his lover?

Hugs! Thanks again...

Bruce, is there proof of that?
Al Parker past away, I think, right?

Hugs!!

His lover was named David Lewis.

I am not an expert on Whale's life, I only know what I have read online--and what was suggested in the movie "Gods and Monsters." You can find a brief bio at IMDb:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001843/bio

Hope this helps.

Boy it would take me a whole afternoon maybe to see that suicide note which was possibly by James Whale! Since there are so many suicides by actors!! I often wonder about that, if so many did that or were they murdered?? !!

When I lived many times in Los Angeles, I heard, born persons there, mentioned sadly often that they thought that murderers got away with killing gays there!! I know that gay actors who past away as being murdered or unsolved deaths in Hollywood, most, if not all, have never been solved. Police, etc., do not care less. Look what happen to Marylin Monroe, since her papers about her disappeared at the morgue?? !!

..........

Regarding one of those first films in which James Whale participated in, that being Hell's Angels, I wonder if that  became the criminal gang's tiltle we know of to-day?
.......

Any other gay subjects in movies you know about?

Hugs!!
