A Question about BetterMost Beans
« on: April 01, 2006, 08:47:02 pm »
ok this is probably a really stupid question, but I have never seen it addressed anywhere - is/was there a brand name called BetterMost back in the 60's -Idon't remember it but maybe it was indigenous to Wyoming?

No.  BetterMost was invented by Ang Lee and is one of the few things that is not trademarked or secured by the studio.  That's one of the reasons this site is called BetterMost - I know I won't get a cease and desist letter from Hollywood lawyers.  :)

OK, I have a similar question. Does anybody know whether "Old Rose" is or was a real brand of whiskey?

I have been told by a reliable source that "Old Rose" is an allusion to Titanic, but I'm still wondering whether it's a real brand. If it is, it isn't sold in the liquor stores in Pennsylvania (liquor is a state monopoly here).

Phillip, Thank you for that tidbit.  Makes me happy.  When I'm telling stories for the millionth time to my grandchildren, maybe this will be one of them.

That's interesting because the other day when I was trying to get here I keyed in http://www.bettermost.com and got a site in Chinese. The only English on it is

Yes... it's a medical products company in China and they are my scourge, because I realize most people automatically assume all addresses are .com first.  I got stuck with .net, but I figure most people find this site through links so I can live with it.

You can also get here with www.beyondbrokebackmountain.com if that is easier to remember.

Shucks, I thought they were real..it seems like the perfect name for something that came out of a can in  the '60s.

I don't mean to make anybody hideously jealous, but I have a coaster-sized fridge magnet of the picture of the two cans side by side, made by ndatmo, and presented to the Seven Pilgrims of the Aero at La CabaƱa.

I have loved the name from the beginning, and am loving it more and more, not just because it has proven to be our salvation, but because it's so funny and true in several ways.

I wonder, though, if Ang Lee named the beans because of the catheters or some other BetterMost medical products? Or maybe "bettermost" is a common Chinglish expression? Maybe Pierre would know...
