Good one, David!  It doesn't take long to figure out the text.  8)

Oh David, that is wonderful.  And Helena, thanks for your comment - it made me look a little harder at it, then, I, too, recognized it.

On the chance of seeming stupid - I don't get it. No idea what text it is from. Someone enlighten me?

Not stupid, just not religious.  It's from the bible:   Ecclesiastes 3.  Pete Seeger adapted it into a popular song, "Turn, turn, turn", covered by the Byrds.

There are numerous different translations, but here's one:

Ecclesiastes 3
American Standard Version

1For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

2a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

Here's a sweet version with Pete Seeger and Judy Collins, from 1966:

Beautiful, both the bible verses as well as the song. Thank you Paul.

I've known the Byrds version for many years, and always liked it. But as with all music I discovered as a young teenager, I know only parts of the lyrics. My English wasn't good enough to understand much then, and there was no internet, nothing where you could look lyrics up. I remember searching the library for books on music, just for lyrics in them. There was a Rock encyclopedia I lent time and time again, because it had plenty lyrics in it. And the joy of finding out a friend had a certain MC with a booklet including the lyrics! :) Strangely enough, LPs never had lyrics with them, but MCs often did.

Anyway, I really didn't have a chance to know it's based on bible verses, that's right. But I know enough of the lyrics that it's clear as a bell, now that I know the connection of course. :laugh:
