People - believe it or not!
« on: October 17, 2011, 10:29:13 am »
Living to be 100 years old is not yet commonplace, even if it is becoming less & less unusual. I heard recently that anyone over 65 today has a 50/50 chance of reaching that double golden age.

Fauja Singh of India is 100 years old - big deal right? But the old coot started running marathons 11 years ago - at the age of 89! And now he just completed a Marathon here in Toronto (his 8th) over the weekend, finishing the 42,2 km grind in 8 hours, 25 minutes and 16 seconds.

Are we likely to see more & more of these remarkable individuals?

Had your mid-life crisis yet? How'd it manifest itself for you?

If not, how you expecting it to go?

Jean Béliveau of Montréal went through his mid-life crisis 11 years ago and went for a walk.

In a Forrest Gump like way, apparently inspired by Terry Fox (the Canadian hero who planned on travelling from one end of the country to the other by running a Marathon a day - on one leg - to raise money to cure cancer) Mr. Béliveau walked clear around the world: 75 000 km. Took him 11 years to do it.

He just completed his trek yesterday as well.

Dunno how to post this, so I'll simply post a link.

This piece is from The National (CBC's News program). It part of a new segment called 'Only in Canada' that aired last night. This one got to me.

It's called The Doorman and it tells how this dorky kid, "Josh Yandt, turned his bullied past into a positive force." Very much worth the 4 mintes, 21 seconds of your time.
