Brokeback Audiobook
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:24:09 pm »
Many of us know Campbell Scott's reading of BBM on CD.

Also, there is our own Rodney's reading of the story.

However, there are two other versions.

One, is a rare cassette-only recording of the complete "Close Range" book of short stories, that includes Brokeback Mountain. (Can't think of the reader right now; gotta go find it...)

Just yesterday, however, I heard yet another version, by Suzy Amis.  It may have been the earliest version.  It was included in a New Yorker CD compilation of short stories.  It included stories by Junot Diaz and Mark Twain.

While Campbell Scott's version is rather straightforward and spare yet dignified, with the unfortunate pronunciation of "Ag-where" for Aguirre, Suzy Amis's is much more lively, if a bit rushed, especially at the beginning.  For the record, she pronounces it  "Ag-wire".  She also has more specific voices for the characters.  But, Jack comes off as high-pitched and whiney; Ennis more low-pitched and gravelly, but not all the time.

Kudos to the voice actors, as I believe these all were recorded before the film.
