Wooo-eeee!  Gustavo and Rodrigo are nominated again!  And chances are Jake will present, since he won one last year.  Regardless, I'm looking forward to this one most of all.  I adore Stephen Fry (I assume/hope he's hosting again), and all in all it's just so much more pleasant to watch than any other awards show.  It'll be held February 11.  I think the way it worked for us Yanks last year was it was shown taped the next night on BBC America...

Thanks for posting this information! Maybe we should have a chat during the show.

I'm hoping to see Pan's Labyrinth this weekend and I'm also very curious about Venus. Have you seen it?

"Venus" hasn't been released here yet, that I know of.  I'm hoping to see "Pan's Labyrinth" this weekend, too!  I'm actually taking the day off on Friday as a kind of mental health/Florida Appreciation day and going out to my favorite breakfast place (a family-owned place called Tom Sawyer), then to see "Babel" at 10:15, then to lunch at my favorite lunch place, then to get my hair cut at 3:00.  (I know - TMI.)  Then I'm hoping to see "Notes on a Scandal" on Saturday and "Pan's Labyrinth" on Sunday.  I don't travel much these days, unfortunately, so I like to have these days off here and there just to recharge my introverted batteries.

Cool! I don't think I can get Friday off but I'll try to get off early and rush over to the theater!!

There was a great review of the movie in The New Yorker.

I haven't found confirmation of it yet, but I know that last year it was shown on BBC America a few nights later, I think it was.  I still have that one TiVo'ed, since it was (and still is) such a thrill to see Jake win and the movie to win just as it should have.  And it was also just a wonderful show.  Stephen Fry really understands how to host these things, and the production team really knows how to present them.  They do everything the Oscars telecasts should do and don't, and nothing they shouldn't do and do.

i.e., there are no musical and/or production "numbers," no tributes to anyone not being honored that night except an "In Memoriam" one, and no inane scripted banter between two presenters (the presenters present solo).  On the other hand, this gives them time to show clips of ALL the nominated actors' performances and filmmakers' films.  As it should be.  God, I love the Brits.

I hope at least Ang will be there.  Jake may not be, since he's filming in Morocco, now, isn't he?

And though I'll have to do without Stephen Fry (wah!), I'm sure it'll still be a *far* more entertaining and tastefully-done show than anything the Academy has ever been able to put on.

I can make you a videotape if you'd like, Elle.
