Nervous as an athlete in a pennant race, Ennis shifted.  The seat squeaked like a rubber ducky.   His foot slipped, kicked a Colt 45 Malt Liquor can hiding underneath.  “Shit!”
Wylie reached over, massaged Ennis’s shoulder, stroked his neck.  Ennis relaxed.  Wylie snaked his fingers up through Ennis’s hair and drew him close, whispering, “C’mere.”
Before Ennis knew what was happenning Wylie  kissed him full on the mouth.  Warm lips, the taste of  whisky, beer, tequila, stale cigarettes.  Ennis didn’t resist, didn’t object, didn’t want it to end.

He sat bolt upright gasping.  Ennis was naked.  In Jack’s bed.  Alone.

As always, amazed at your ability to slide those prompts so seamlessly into the story.  I wonder how Ennis will react to his dream?

Thanks Marie!

You sure he was just dreaming?
Up to now Ennis's dreams have been based on reality with Wylie sometimes in place of Jack.
And, he's been sleeping on the couch.  How'd he wind up in Jack's bed... naked?

The problem with drinking to forget is you don’t get to choose what you remember.

Why, you sneaky Clyde, you!     That's right - he was on the couch, wasn't he?  Okay, I'll bite - how did he wind up in Jack's bed - naked?   ;D  (And, yeah, your comment about drinking to forget should be carved in stone somewhere!) This is a great story.

Thanks,
Marie

The Best Medicine

"Bobby, wait, that knife is sharp."

"I can do it!" Eager to carve his own pumpkin, Bobby grabbed the knife with zeal and stabbed awkwardly, his smiling face dissolving instantly into shock, then tears, as the knife slipped and he saw blood dripping from his hand.

"Shit!"  Jack was there in a flash.  "It's okay, buddy."  Carrying Bobby to the sink, he could hear his own daddy's voice.  Stop that snivelin and take your medicine like a man, boy.

He held his son close as he gently wrapped his finger, murmuring words of comfort and love, the best medicine of all.

Ennis’s head throbbed.  How’d I wind up in Jack’s bed?  He sat dressed, on the edge, hugging a frilly spare blanket, a forgotten hostess gift.  He couldn’t remember last night.  The room seemed to accuse him of some unnamed transgression.  “Jack... I...”  A gentle breeze through the tiny window dried the tear that had fallen on his cheek.
Can’t go downstairs.  They’re like family, relatives.  What if they all know?  Sittin there. Starin.
He heard footfalls climbing the stairs, men’s boots from the sound of them.  A quick knock, the door opened.  “Mornin.  You look a mite crotchety.”  Wylie smiled.

Shamless plug:    A couple of people had requested it, so I collected the ten parts of Jack's encounter with the Killer Mechanic and put them together in a separate thread.  The story is now titled 'Hero.'  As always, feedback is welcome.
