Try this one:  (Used to be Ed and I thought of it as our theme song - I see Jack and Ennis in it, too.)

Captain Fantastic (and the Brown Dirt Cowboy)

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

Captain Fantastic, raised and regimented, hardly a hero
Just someone his mother might know
Very clearly a case for corn flakes and classics
"Two teas both with sugar, please"
In the back of an alley.

While little Dirt Cowboys turned brown in their saddles
Sweet chocolate biscuits and red rosy apples in summer
For it's hay make and "Hey mom, do the papers say anything good?
Are there chances in life for little Dirt Cowboys?
Should I make my way out of my home in the woods?"

Brown Dirt Cowboy, still green and growing
City slick Captain
Fantastic the feedback
The honey the hive could be holding
For there's weak-winged young sparrows that starve in the winter
Broken young children on the wheels of the winners
And the sixty-eight summer festival wallflowers are thinning

For cheap easy meals and hardly a home on the range
Too hot for the band with a desperate desire for change
We've thrown in the towel too many times
Out for the count and when we're down
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy
From the end of the world to your town

And all this talk of Jesus coming back to see us
Couldn't fool us.
For we were spinning out our lines walking on the wire
Hand in hand went music and the rhyme
The Captain and the Kid stepping in the ring
From here on, sonny, sonny, sonny, it's a long and lonely climb.

Sigh.  Or this one I'm listening to right now on my iPod:

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'bout a ghost from a wishin well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as Im a ghost that you cant see

If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, lets be real
* I never thought I could act this way *
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feelins gone
And I just cant get it back.

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'bout a ghost from a wishin well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that Im just tryin to understand
The feelin's that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just to get it
I dont know where we went wrong
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back.

This song makes me think of Jack and Ennis. It's a duet, so I'm going to fill in who would sing which part. Might seem cheesy but I can't help it!

If I Never Knew You
Music: Alan Menken
Lyrics: Stephen Schwartz

[:Jack:]
If I never knew you
If I never felt this love
I would have no inkling of
How precious life can be

And if I never held you
I would never have a clue
How at last I'd find in you
The missing part of me

In this world so full of fear
Full of rage and lies
I can see the truth so clear
In your eyes
So dry your eyes

And I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you

[:Ennis:]
If I never knew you
I'd be safe but half as real
Never knowing I could feel
A love so strong and true

I'm so grateful to you
I'd have lived my whole life through
Lost forever
If I never knew you

[:Jack:]
I thought our love would be so beautiful

[:Ennis:]
Somehow we made the whole world bright

[:Both:]
I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong
All they'd leave us where these whispers in the night
But still my heart is singing
We were right

[:Ennis:]
If I never knew you
If I never knew this love
I would have no inkling of
How precious life can be

[:Jack:] (together during the previous stanza)
There's no moment I regret
Since the moment that we met
If our time has gone too fast
I've lived at last...

[:Both:]
I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we'd make the whole world bright

[:Ennis:]
I thought our love would be so beautiful
We'd turn the darkness into light

[:Both:]
And still my heart is singing
We were right

[:Jack:]
We were right
And If I never knew you
I'd have lived my whole life through

[:Ennis:]
Empty as the sky

[:Both:]
Never knowing why
Lost forever
If I never knew you
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold...

Don't know if it was mentioned but..

"A DIFFERENT CORNER" - especially the last two words..  ;)
[by George Michael]

I'd say love was a magical thing
I'd say love would keep us from pain
Had I been there, had I been there

I would promise you all of my life
But to lose you would cut like a knife
So I don't dare, no I don't dare

'Cause I've never come close in all of these years
You are the only one to stop my tears
And I'm so scared, I'm so scared

Take me back in time maybe I can forget
Turn a different corner and we never would have met
Would you care

I don't understand it, for you it's a breeze
Little by little you've brought me to my knees
Don't you care

No I've never come close in all of these years
You are the only one to stop my tears
I'm so scared of this love

And if all that there is, is this fear of being used
I should go back to being lonely and confused
If I could, I would, I swear

Good, someone finally mentioned a person who sings crossover to country music, Gordon Lightfoot. His ballads fit both the popular and the country genres.

Bernie Taupin is special because he owns a real ranch and raises bulls, too. He also knows quite a few men who are bull riders by profession.

A couple from the lovely Norah Jones...

'Come Away With Me'

Come away with me in the night
Come Away with me
And I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies

I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In the fields where the yellow grass grows
knee-high
So won't you try to come

Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come Away with me

And this one I imagine Ennis and Jack feeling before the reunion, when they're each wondering where the other is...

'Lonestar'

Lonestar where are you out tonight?
This feeling i'm trying to fight
It's dark and i think that I would
give anything
For you to shine down on me

How far you are I just don't know
The distance I'm willing to go
I pick up a stone that I cast to the sky
Hoping for some kind of sign
Will you stop playing with that radio of yours, I'm trying to get to sleep!

Sigh.  I love Norah Jones.  That album helped get me through the first year of my son's life.  I'd put it on every evening when I put him in his high chair to eat his dinner.  It was so soothing.  For both of us.

Just heard this one in my car a little bit ago:

We Belong - Pat Benatar

Many times I've tried to tell you
Many times I've cried alone
Always I'm surprised how well you
Cut my feelings to the bone

Don't want to leave you really
I've invested too much time
To give you up that easy
To the doubts that complicate your mind

We belong to the light
We belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words
We've both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Maybe it's a sign of weakness
When I don't know what to say
Maybe I just wouldn't know
What to do with my strength anyway
Have we become a habit?
Do we distort the facts?
Now there's no looking forward
Now there's no turning back

Close your eyes and try to sleep now
Close your eyes and try to dream
Clear your mind and do your best
To try and wash the palette clean
We can't begin to know it
How much we really care
I hear your voice inside me
I see your face everywhere
No more beans!

Uh-oh, big lump in my throat from that. Had to put my coffee down  :'(

I seem to be on a BBM double-whammy at the mo, having been a big-time Ennis-a-holic to begin with but now I've started to see all the hurt from Jack's POV too.  How can it get any sadder?  I don't know it but the lyrics seemed to be from Jack to me, but I think could also be Ennis in a way.  Awww...
Old Brokeback got us good and it sure ain't over
