Beckyyyyyyyyy.  Nothing Compares To You was written by Prince.  You're young.  I understand.  ;D

Here's a song from the new self titled Pearl Jam cd that reminded me of story Ennis in the framing sequence.

COME BACK

If I keep holding out
Will the light shine through?
Under this broken roof
It's only rain that I feel
I've been wishin' out the days
Oh oh oh
Come back

I have been planning out
All that I'd say to you
Since you slipped away
Know that I still remain true
I've been wishin' out the days
Please say that if you hadn't have gone now
I wouldn't have lost you another way
From wherever you are
Oh oh oh oh
Come back

And these days, they linger on, yeah, yeah
And in the night, I've been waiting for
A real possibility that I may meet you in my dreams
I go to sleep

If I don't fall apart
Will my memory stay clear?
So you had to go
And I had to remain here
But the strangest thing to date
So far away and yet you feel so close
I'm not going to question it any other way
It must be an open door for you
To come back

And the days they linger on, yeah
Every night I'm waiting for
The real possibility that I may need to end my pain
Sometimes you're there and you're talking back to me
Come the morning I could swear you're next to me

And it's ok, it's ok, it's ok

I'll be here
Come back, come back
I'll be here
Come back, come back
I'll be here
Come back, come back

The three consecutive "it's okay"s made me think, geez, was this inspired by the movie?

Okay.  With no small degree of trepidation I present...

THE WINGS (vocal version)
lyrics by (shudder) me  <still want to make these two edits.  Lines don't look right>

<Looking through feathers I see you sometimes>
The wings on my back are like metal and stone
They cover my eyes and weigh heavy on me
I'm sheltered and blinded, I'm safe and alone

I don't have the words to make sense of my need
Each definition you hold in your hand
But God he has placed me out of your reach
So I am still living by lower demands

Oh my love
We are cold in the light
We are grounded in flight
Oh my love

In every heart living there's something inside
That's meant to be passed between people we love
I can't change the way that I've chosen to live
I can't stand the pain of not giving enough

I'm sorry for giving you hope for this life
When nothing worth living for lasts very long
And I wish to heaven that someone had told me
The struggle just might have been worth taking on

Oh my love
We are cold in the light
We are grounded in flight
Oh my love

In dreams we are gifted with open blue skies
We ride with each other the mountains we knew
<When dreams are all over and death grants my wish>
The wings on my back they will fly me to you
The wings on my back will fly me to you

So that's the version that Gustavo has with my name all over it from the Aero.   :)

Kirk,
For some reason (but which  ???), I was not receiving the answers to this topic anymore, so I have just discovered the lyrics you wrote to The Wings! It is beautiful  :) I wish I could hear it. Any idea where I can?

(what can I say? I'm a romantic)--JLScheib

The first time that ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
and the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
to the dark and the empty skies, my love
to the dark and the empty skies

The first time that ever I lay with you
and felt your heart beat close to mine
I thought our joy would fill the earth
and last till the end of time, my love,
and last till the ende of time

The first time that ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth turn in my hand
like the trembling heart of a captive bird
that was there at my command, my love,
that was there at my command.

   -- Ewen McCall

I LOVE THIS SONG TOO! I've heard two versions now (one by George Michael) and it is such a beautiful song! Fits perfectly for BBM!

KATIE MELUA LYRICS

"I Cried For You"

You're beautiful so silently
It lies beneath a shade of blue
It struck me so violently
When I looked at you

But others pass, the never pause,
To feel that magic in your hand
To me you're like a wild rose
They never understand why

I cried for you
When the sky cried for you
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter
But this life was not for you
Though I learned from you,
That beauty need only be a whisper

I'll cross the sea for a different world,
With your treasure, a secret for me to hold

In many years they may forget
This love of ours or that we met,
They may not know
how much you meant to me.

I cried for you
And the sky cried for you,
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter.
But this life was not for you,
Though I learned from you,
That beauty need only be a whisper

Without you now I see,
How fragile the world can be
And I know you've gone away
But in my heart you'll always stay.

I cried for you
And the sky cried for you,
And when you went
I became a hopeless drifter.
But this life was not for you,
Though I learned from you,
That beauty need only be a whisper
That beauty need only be a whisper

Isabelle.

I imagine I'll have a website up at some point.  I sent it to Ray and he can't listen to it due to computer problems.  I'm taking that as a sign and keeping it to myself until a more professional version is available.  Thanks though.  ;)

This one reminds me of the last trip together: "Don't Speak" by No Doubt.  It's not particularly eloquent but the message is clear & poignant.  Below is an excerpt (the chorus) which brngs to mind the images of them hurting each other with what they're saying, and also what they're not saying of course.

"Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts"

TOO FAR GONE by Neil Young

When I woke up you were gone
And the sun was on the lawn
Empty pillow with perfume on
I smelled it.

Well, we met in my favorite bar
Took a ride in my old car
But I still don't know how
We made it home.

Was I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

We had drugs and we had booze
But we still had something to lose
And by dawn I wanted
To marry you.

With our attitudes by day
And our secret dreams by night
Can we really live our lives
That way.

Am I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

Was I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

Neil recorded many versions of this song, from 1972 to 1989 (and probably still performs it)
My favourite versions
are on Chrome Dreams / On the Beach - a quieter acoustic version suitable for the movie soundtrack.

and on:  Freedom (1989) a heavier rock studio version that would be so great if the movie had had a larger budget, with helicopter shots of our boys riding horses over the rolling hills and through sunsets, wind in their hair in some open vehicle;  huge smiles with trees, rocks and clouds whizzing by, ...  ooops back to reality.

This Year's Love - David Gray

This years love had better last
heaven knows it's high time
I've been waiting on my own too long
And when you hold me like you do
It feels so right
I start to forget how my heart gets torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Feeling like I can't go on

Turning circles when time again
it cuts like a knife oh yea
IF you love me got to know for sure
Cos it takes something more this time
than sweet sweet lies
before i open up my arms and fall
losing all control of every dream inside my soul
and when you kiss me on that midnight street
sweep me off my feet
singin ain't this life so sweet

this years love had better last
this years love had better last

so whose to worry if our hearts get torn
when that hurt gets thrown
don't you know this life goes on
and won't you kiss me on that midnight street
sweep me off my feet
singin ain't this life so sweet

this years love had better last
this years love had better last
this years love had better last
this years love had better last
I've learnt that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in!
