Jack and Ennis figurines

I didn't know that, and apparently Ehrenstein doesn't either. Here's a quote from his entry: "...I know a crazed South Boston closet queen when I see one." And this is a typical example of the kind of comment Ehrenstein makes when he's writing without his professional hat on.

I guess he doesn't recognize a crazed South Boston closet queen when he sees one.

Of course I always advocate using Wikipedia with care, but in this case the information confirms the memory I have of seeing Matthews on a local Philadelphia TV station news program talking about being from Philadelphia.

As for the Jack and Ennis figures, some where a long time ago there was a thread about Jack and Ennis "action figures" that was mostly funny, though I said then, and I say now, if I could get my hands on a couple of good "collectable"-type figures--like these--especially if they were or could be posed in the Dozy Embrace, I would't hesitate.

This is it, Fran! Thank you for finding this and making it available here. So Ehrenstein apparently doesn't actually own these (one can't imagine him wanting to), but merely knew of their existence. And it sounds like anyone with enough initiative can make their own figurines that more or less resemble the ones in the illustration.

Brokeback Mountain stars become "gay action figures"

An internet blogger has caused online tears, and praise after designing action figures dedicated to the gay cowboy movie, Brokeback Mountain.

Jedi Doug, an action figure enthusiast from Canada, constructed the models by hand from other toys, and has featured them on his website along with models from other programmes such as Angel and Napoleon Dynamite.

The figures are designed looking down, as they do for most of the film, he said: “I chose to model them after the outfits they wore earlier in the film when they were first working on Brokeback Mountain (and in the "You're sleeping on your feet like a horse" flashback from the end). Both are wearing the shirts that Jack saves.

“Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) was made using an Angel torso and shoulders with Wesley arms, Napoleon Dynamite Pedro legs, and a Pat Burrell head (the latter two both McFarlane figures.

“Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) was made using a Wesley torso and arms with Pedro legs and a Luc Robitaille head.

Mercy, no! I have neither the time nor talent for such a project. I'll content myself with any illustrations that Mr. Ehrenstein chooses to provide online.

I imagine a certain amount of artistic ability is required, too.

             I am sure it would require a certain amount of sculpting ability.  Even if you have the figures to begin with...
             The clothes
             The hats
             The boots,   all would have to be made and applied, then painted...it then appears to have had the color either baked on or clearcoated after as well.
              it would take more than a rainy afternoon to complete.

The legs are easy.  They're right off of Pedro and painted.
