I know what you mean, Jack. I was a philosophy student, and most of my writing in college had to be cold and unfeeling. If you showed any emotion or used wit you got points off, because doing that was seen as an attempt to appeal to something other than the intellect, and that was thought of as cheating. I hated writing that way. It never felt right to me.I would imagine that you were supposed to be cold and unfeeling when writing papers for a computer class, too.
