Meryl, the purple thing was about remembering the young gay kids who commited suicide because the were bullied.  :'(

Meryl, the purple in the gay pride flag stands for "spirit" and on 10/21/10 a movement took place where people wore purple to show they were against bullying and in memory of the youths who took their lives as a result of bullying.
