Thoughts for the day

I'm confused as well. I guess if I were Catholic I would understand it better. I didn't even know that they put a smudged black mark on their foreheads for Ash Wednesday. I know that they have a party before they give up something for Lent. Right? When I was visiting some friends in New Jersey the woman of the couple saw the cross I wear that my friend from Texas sent me a few years ago. She said, "What kind of cross is that?" I said, "What do you mean?" to which she replied, "It's not a Catholic cross cause Jesus isn't laying in the middle of it." I said, "Well, that would make sense since I am not a Catholic." I think it is as common to be Catholic there as it is to be Baptist here. And I'm Methodist like Ennis :)

It actually looks pretty in the picture suprisingly enough. I don't think I've ever seen it blooming. It does eat people Jeff especially if you lay around in it long enough ;D And did you know that some people around here eat it?

But I never understood that because I always thought Lent wasn't done to insure salvation but just as an act of love.
I could be wrong, it happens! :-\

Here is from the Ash Wednesday liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer:
"Dear People of God: The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting. This season of Lent provided a time in which converts to the faith were prepared for Holy Baptism. It was also a time when those who, because of notorious sins, had been separated from the body of the faithful were reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and restored to the fellowship of the Church. Thereby, the whole congregation was put in mind of the message of pardon and absolution set forth in the Gospel of our Savior, and of the need which all Christians continually have to renew their repentance and faith."
Around my church they always say that observing Lent makes Easter seem all that more special. :D
