They're awful. Alone the thought that you may preceive them as "typically German" makes me squirm. They are not! Ten years ago nobody had ever seen such a thing in Germany. Then, all of a sudden, they were the biggest decoration hit for a few years ().
Meanwhile this fashion is thankfully waning, but still existent.

you mean that's not the Weihnachtsmann?  What did you folks traditionally decorate with then?

It's warming up nicely. It's already up to 13 degrees (-10.5 deg C)!

Brrrr!  It isn't nearly as cold here in Northern CA today and I was glad there was no frost on my car... I haven"t got a scraper for those frosty mornings when the dew freezes as it comes down.

The guy in the pic is naturally the Weihnachtsmann. And he himself is not *that* new of course. I meant specifically those decoration figures climbing up to windows. They were unknown ten years ago.

Today I was at the theater with my younger children. Kerstin and her kids were with us. Traditionally, in December and January, there are many theater shows specifically for children and we go to one of them every year.

This year we saw "Snow White and the seven dwarfs" in the festival hall of the next town. The hall was built in Art Nouveau and is very festive, so this alone made a big impression on the kids  .

Two of the dwarfs we played by members of the ensemble, the other by children from the audience (they didn't have to speak, they just had to follow the big dwarfs)

It was a music-theater show. But the music was not children's music or some simple musical-like melodies, it was pretty much opera-like, with arias 'n all. I liked this.

I love pre-Christmas season  .
