Brokeback Mountain $16.98 Free 2nd Day Air DVD Deal
« on: March 27, 2006, 01:49:38 pm »
Thanks for Impish for giving me the details on this - for those who want to have the DVD in their hands by free air shipping, and at a good price, here is a step by step process to get it from Amazon and get a free three month trial of their Amazon Prime service.  I'll show you how to pre-cancel it right after you sign up so you never get billed for it.  However, I cannot guarantee everyone is going to get the offer.  Experiences from others indicate the invites for the three month trial are random.  If you don't get it today, you might get it tomorrow, or after you place items in your shopping cart and head for the checkout.  Remember that all orders over $25 get free ground shipping in any case.

1. Visit www.amazon.com and log in.  If you are new to Amazon, you can create a new account later.

2. Visit www.amazon.com/prime.  On the right hand side, you will see an offer to sign up for Amazon Prime.  Important! The offer must say Sign Up for Your 3-Month Free Trial.  If you see, Sign up for the introductory price of $79 a year instead, then stop, because the free trial offer is not showing up for you.  They will charge you $79 immediately if you choose the "introductory price" link! If you don't get a free trial offer, move on to step three.

3. Here is the link for the Brokeback Mountain DVD.<img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=mediumwave&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />  Remember to choose the correct version - widescreen (recommended) or full frame!

4. Now if you are enrolled as an Amazon Prime member, you need to turn on 1-click ordering which is the easiest way to finish an order using Amazon Prime.  You'll see a link in tiny print towards the top that looks like "Phillip Dampier turn on 1-Click to use your Amazon Prime benefits."  There is a link to click to get that feature turned on.

5. If you never got an invitation for a free trial to Amazon Prime, you may get one now that you added an item into your shopping cart.  Try visiting www.amazon.com/prime again and see if it shows up now.  If it does, sign up for the trial immediately and deal with the DVD order later by coming back here and starting the process over.

6. Assuming you have turned on one-click and have your Amazon Prime membership working okay, you should be all set to complete your order.  If you never got an invitation, my recommendation is don't complete the order now.  Later that day or tomorrow, just come back to this message and start the process again.

If you are having any problems, let me know.  I might be able to figure out something.

Important Instructions to Prevent You From Being Charged Later for Amazon Prime

To just take advantage of the free trial and not be charged for Amazon Prime, after you complete your DVD order, visit the Your Account link at the top of most Amazon.com pages.  You'll see a menu of options.  Towards the bottom, you will find Subscriptions Management - Manage your Amazon Prime membership.  Click on the manage link, enter your password, and you'll see a button labeled DO NOT UPGRADE.  Click it once and you'll see it change to indicate your account will not be upgraded automatically.  That's all you need to do!

Phillip,

Does Amazon predict on which day the DVD will *arrive*?!?

Thanks,

No, but they have been known to pre-ship titles to arrive on customer's doorsteps the day of official release.  But I can't guarantee that will happen.  A day or two won't matter much to me either way.

Usually I am a pretty patient person but I'm anxious to own this DVD.  Maybe I'll order it and if it doesn't arrive by noon (taking a mental health day on the 4th) I'll go to the store and purchase one.

Thanks for the information.

Question:  how many plays is a DVD good for?  Never wondered before, never expected to paly something dozens of times ... hundreds?  Should I be thinking of getting a 2nd while it's available for when the first one wears out?

A DVD does not wear with use.  A laser light beam reads the data off the disc.  Nothing except your hands ever makes physical contact with the disc, so your DVD player will wear out long before the DVD ever will!
